Job summary

SLR Consulting (Canada) in Calgary seeks a Senior Groundwater Modeler to advance hydrogeological projects across Canada, Australia, and South America. You will mentor team members, contribute to client service, and apply advanced numerical groundwater modeling.

The role requires MSc/PhD in Hydrogeology, P.Geo or P.Eng, and 15+ years of modeling experience using GMS, Groundwater Vistas, FEFLOW, Python, and FloPy; willingness to travel internationally and domestically; hybrid work arrangement.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Hydrogeology or related discipline is required.
• Registration as a P.Geo or P.Eng is required or to be pursued.
• Minimum 15 years of groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling experience.
• Experience with 3D hydrogeological conceptual modeling and numerical tools.

Job description

We are SLR Consulting (Canada), an 1000+ team of advisory, environmental, engineering, and regulatory professionals across Canada. As our new Senior Groundwater Modeler you will play an important role on a team whose work is essential to achieving this goal. Success in this complex, multi-faceted role will depend on your demonstrated skills and depth of experience in mentorship, business development, and client service, as well as your technical mastery of the field.
The successful applicant will join a team of senior hydrogeologists that supports mining companies worldwide in managing mine water issues, including mine de-watering, groundwater impact assessment, seepage control and mitigation. You will be responsible for contributing to hydrogeological projects in Canada and abroad (Australia, Central and South America) and will work closely with our team of groundwater modelers.
This is a challenging position and will require a well-rounded individual with a willingness to learn, improve technical abilities, and work independently. You will be required to travel to our domestic or international project sites. We offer the flexibility of a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the SLR team on hydrogeological projects in Canada, Australia, and South America.
• Develop and refine groundwater flow & contaminant transport models with input from senior staff and other team members.
• Review and interpret variety of groundwater-related data and information as part of conceptual and numerical modeling
• Develop 3D hydrogeological conceptual models using designated software

• The salary range for this position is $150,000- $185,000. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD degree in Hydrogeology or a related discipline, ideally with an emphasis on numerical groundwater modeling
• Registered as a P.Geo or P.Eng with Engineers and Geoscientists
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in groundwater flow and contaminant transport modeling using numerical modelling finite difference and/or finite element software such as GMS, Groundwater Vistas and FEFLOW
• Experience with developing 3D hydrogeological conceptual models using software packages such as surfer, Leapfrog and EVS
• Experience with developing and managing codes and scripts in Python and FloPy, FORTRAN, or others
• Proficiency in Spanish is considered an asset
• Valid driver's license, and willingness to undertake short term travel in Canada and overseas
• Strong written skills desirable
