Guided by our long‑term ambition of Globally Connected Excellence and our purpose of Sustaining the Future, we work alongside our clients to deliver lasting solutions that strengthen resilience and benefit future generations.

What you would engage in:

Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. If continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, based out of our Vancouver office. The role of Senior Geotechnical Engineer will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Engage with clients, colleagues, and suppliers on geotechnical focused field programs and design solutions
  • Lead teams focused on civil / geotechnical designs for mine waste projects
  • Collaborate within multi-disciplinary project teams for the delivery of mine waste projects
  • Participate in dam safety inspections, dam safety reviews, and the development of dam safety systems
  • Guide, mentor, and train more junior staff in your area(s) of expertise
  • Build client rapport as projects progress from feasibility through to mine closure
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to develop well rounded solutions for clients
  • Prepare technical reports, proposals, and other project specific documentation
What we are looking for:

We are looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Vancouver-based engineering team to work on local and international mining and resource projects. Your experience will be applied to the planning, investigation, assessment, design and construction of tailings and water dams and waste storage for mining clients. Career development can be managed to support personal preferences such as niche, technical design specialists, or project participation in both technical dam engineering scopes and project management, or all‑round dam engineering specialists, such as the responsible persons or Engineers of Record.

What we require:
  • A degree in civil or geotechnical engineering: a master’s degree is considered an asset
  • 10+ years’ experience in civil or geotechnical related projects (preferably for mining or related industries), with a track record of continued development
  • You must be eligible to register as professional engineer in Canada
  • Experience in geohazard engineering, assessments, investigations, design, tendering and construction administration
  • Working knowledge of geotechnical software packages including PLAXIS, FLAC, and SLOPE/W
  • General understanding of mining-related regulations and industry best practices
  • Passion for collaborating with clients and fostering long-term relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Enhanced communication skills, which should include experience in writing proposals, technical reports, and general project correspondence
  • Experience in a safety focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements
You will excel in our team if you have:
  • An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them.
  • A willingness to mentor others and be mentored.
  • An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Demonstrate that you are flexible and seek solutions rather than focus on problems.
  • A willingness to travel and undertake fieldwork.
  • A proven ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The salary for this position is $110,000 to $160,000 per year. Compensation above this range may be considered for candidates with significant experience or specialized expertise. The actual salary offered is based on an individual assessment of applicable experience, education, and skill level.

Along with continued career development, KCB offers:
  • Hybrid work opportunities
  • Annual performance and salary review
  • PSMJ’s supported track record of profitability, leading to above average bonus payouts
  • Vacation policy that aligns to your experience
  • Paid OT, and wellness days
  • Flexible benefits, including RSP, social, and mental well-being initiatives
