Job summary

WSP on Vancouver Island is seeking a seasoned geotechnical engineer to lead projects from investigation through design and construction support, delivering critical earth-related solutions for infrastructure across BC and the Yukon.

Based in Nanaimo, you’ll manage investigation programs, interpret subsurface conditions, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of highways, bridges, dams and buildings.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil or geological engineering with a geotechnical focus.
• Registered or eligible for registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency with geotechnical software (GeoStudio, Rocscience).
• Proven experience managing investigation programs and multidisciplinary projects.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret complex subsurface conditions and risks.
• Strong understanding of field practices and construction methods.
• Track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver geotechnical engineering projects from investigation through to design and construction support.

• Share expertise across regions to strengthen technical excellence and innovation.
• Manage geotechnical investigation programs, including subcontractor coordination and tendering support.
• Evaluate complex geotechnical challenges such as settlement, slope stability, liquefaction, and frost effects.
• Oversee field programs including drilling, in-situ testing, and construction monitoring.
• Contribute to successful project delivery aligned with quality, schedule, and budget targets.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $104,100 – $138,000
MB & ON: $95,000 – $130,800
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $94,100 – $124,900
