Job summary

Stantec in Burnaby, BC is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex geotechnical projects across Canada. You will design, analyze, and manage geotechnical investigations and construction support, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver sustainable infrastructure.

The role requires a Civil/Geotechnical degree, P.Eng in good standing, and 15+ years of BC experience. You’ll mentor junior staff, guide proposals, and contribute to innovation initiatives while advancing

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering; Master’s/PhD asset.
  • Professional Engineer in good standing with EGBC (P.Eng) or eligible to obtain license in BC.
  • 15+ years of relevant BC experience.
  • Knowledge of BC/Canada codes and standards.
  • Experience with geotechnical software (GeoStudio, LeapFrog, Rocscience).
  • Strong client, sub-consultant and contractor management.
  • Supervision/mentoring of junior staff; project management desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support design, analysis, and construction of infrastructure across Canada (transportation, water, etc.).
  • Prepare proposals with scopes and budgets.
  • Lead complex analyses using state-of-the-practice software.
  • Manage geotechnical-focused and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor colleagues and foster technical excellence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and build client relationships.
  • Perform geotechnical analyses and develop design recommendations (shallow/deep foundations, slope stability, seismic hazards).
  • Contribute to business development and market expansion initiatives.
  • Drive innovation through digitization and state-of-practice analyses.

Your Key Responsibilities:

Our geotechnical practitioners work collaboratively to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions to our clients and communities on unique projects Nationally and Globally. As a senior geotechnical engineer, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Support the design, analysis, and construction of all types of infrastructure projects across Canada spanning from transportation, commercial/industrial developments, water and wastewater, transmission and oil & gas.
  • Prepare proposals (developing scopes and budgets).
  • Leadcomplex analysis using state of the practice software.
  • Manage and coordinate geotechnical-focused and multidisciplinary project teams, commensurate with your experience and capabilities.
  • Mentorcolleagues across a breadth of experience fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Collaboratewith multidisciplinary teams while building strong, productive relationships with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.
  • Work closely with staff to perform geotechnical engineering analyses and design; develop recommendations; and prepare geotechnical reports addressing issues such as site preparation, ground improvement options, shallow and deep foundation design, settlement, slope stability, seismic hazards, and other related project considerations.
  • Contribute to business development, proposal preparation, and market expansion initiatives.
  • Drive innovation by leading or contributing to digitization initiatives, advancing state of practice analyses, market research, and the development of emerging technologies, with a focus on climate change adaptation, risk, and liability reduction.
Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geological, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s or PhD an asset).
  • Professional Engineer in good standing with EGBC, with P.Eng. designation, or eligibility to obtain a license to practice in British Columbia.
  • 15+ years of relevant industry experience in British Columbia.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Columbia and Canadian codes, guidelines and standards.
  • Experience with geotechnical software solutions (GeoStudio™, LeapFrog, Rocscience, LPile, Settle 3D).
  • Familiar with local bylaws and design codes (e.g., BCBC, NBCC, CSA-S6-14).
  • Strong client, sub-consultant, and contractor management experience.
  • Liquefaction assessments and site-specific response analysis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the consulting business and understanding the critical nature of practical value-driven solutions which are not always the most technically complex.
  • Excellent organizational ability, report writing, and verbal communication.
  • Experience in supervision, guidance, development, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Previous experience working in an engineering consulting environment.
  • Previous project management experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Alternative Project Delivery methods (e.g., Design-Build) would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to work with and contribute to a larger team.
