Job summary

Starlight Capital seeks an experienced Senior Fund Accountant to join its fund services team, overseeing NAV monitoring, expense accruals, and regulatory reporting for a portfolio of mutual funds and related structures. You will work with the third-party administrator and custodian to ensure accurate financial operations and timely reporting.

You will contribute to fee calculations, fund budgets, and distribution processes while supporting audits and ongoing process improvements.

Qualifications

• University or college degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in the mutual fund/asset management industry.
• Solid understanding of NI 81-106 as relates to mutual/investment funds; experience with closed-end funds and structured products.
• Strong knowledge of NAV calculation, fund expense allocation, and financial reporting.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with Bloomberg or other information systems is an asset.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed oversight of the external fund administrator including NAV monitoring, expense and income accruals, and variance analysis.
• Review and/or prepare fee calculations (management, administration, performance fees).
• Oversee fund expenses, budgets, accruals, and MER calculations.
• Prepare fund recoveries and review fund invoices.
• Assist in preparing fund financial reports, including statements and MD&As, ensuring regulatory compliance.
• Assist in managing income and gain distributions and reviewing monthly/quarterly distributions.
• Review year-end tax reporting (T3), CDS factors, etc.
• Assist with year-end audits and liaise with auditors.
• Review and prepare investment portfolios for public disclosure.
• Support reporting for Sales, Investments, and Compliance teams.

Job description

Starlight Capital is seeking an experienced Senior Fund Accountant to join our fund services team. The fund services team is responsible for the oversight and operations of a portfolio of mutual funds, closed-end funds, and limited partnerships.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fund Services, the Senior Fund Accountantwill support oversight of the funds’ third party valuation agent and custodian and play a key role in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the funds — including process development, analysis, and regulatory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform detailed oversight of our external fund administrator by performing NAV monitoring proceduresincluding tolerance checks, portfolio and capital reconciliations, income reconciliations, review of expense and income accruals, variance analysis, and discrepancy follow-up
• Review and/or prepare fee calculations, including management, administration, and performance fees
• Oversee fund expenses, including preparing fund budgets and monitoring expense accruals and MER calculations
• Prepare fund recoveries and review fund invoices
• Assist in preparing fund financial reports, including financial statements, MFRPs/MD&As, ensuring compliance with accounting and regulatory standards
• Assist in managing the funds' income and gain distribution process, including review of monthly and quarterly distributions
• Review year-end tax reporting, including T3 summary and slips, CDS factors, etc.
• Assist with the funds' year-end audits, liaising with auditors to resolve queries in a timely manner
• Review and/or prepare monthly/quarterly investment portfolios for public disclosure
• Assist with reporting for Sales, Investments, and Compliance teams
• Review company’s website and third-party sites for data accuracy
• Assist in documenting and updating processes and procedures
• Maintain and improve Excel-based workbook tools and automation for accounting processes
• Participate in special projects as they relate to the funds, including prospectus renewals, fund mergers, fund launches, etc.

Qualifications

• Solid understanding of National Instrument 81-106 as it relates to mutual/investment funds; experience with closed-end funds and structured products
• Strong knowledge of NAV calculation, fund expense allocation, and financial reporting
