Job description

Scribendi is seeking a Senior Full‑Stack Engineer to help build the next generation of AI‑driven products that empower researchers worldwide. In this role you’ll work across the full stack—front end, back end, and integrations—to deliver performant, scalable, and intelligent applications that directly advance scientific research and discovery. You will help architect the future of research technology—developing agentic AI systems and intelligent collaboration experiences that remove barriers to discovery. The products you build will be used by scientists and researchers worldwide, accelerating breakthroughs that improve lives.

This posting is for an existing vacancy. Please note that this role does require regular in‑person meetings.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and build next‑generation platforms that empower researchers and accelerate scientific discovery—from scalable web applications to intelligent, AI‑driven experiences.
  • Develop and maintain high‑performance front‑end and back‑end systems using modern technologies such as React, Next.js, Node.js, PHP, and Python, ensuring exceptional quality, speed, and reliability.
  • Integrate agentic AI systems that augment human creativity and automate complex research and writing workflows.
  • Contribute to architecture and system design, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with the organization’s long‑term technology strategy.
  • Drive innovation by experimenting with new frameworks, tools, and methods that increase development velocity and platform performance.
  • Collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams—including Product, Design, QA, AI Engineering, and DevOps—to translate product vision into elegant, executable solutions.
  • Deliver clean, maintainable, and testable code through disciplined development practices, thoughtful peer reviews, and proactive documentation.
  • Take ownership of your work from concept to deployment, ensuring smooth releases and reliable post‑launch performance.
  • Mentor and collaborate with peers, sharing knowledge, supporting growth, and contributing to a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Continuously improve systems and processes, identifying opportunities to enhance automation, observability, and developer productivity.
  • Operate with autonomy and accountability, making technical decisions that balance velocity, scalability, and long‑term sustainability.
Requirements
  • Full‑stack craftsman—deep experience designing, building, and maintaining complex web applications across the stack using technologies such as React, Next.js, Node.js, PHP, Python, and modern databases (MySQL, Postgres).
  • Systems thinker—understands how architecture, scalability, and performance fit together, and can design solutions that are both elegant and pragmatic.
  • AI fluent—excited by the intersection of software engineering and AI, and knows how to integrate AI APIs, workflows, and agentic systems into real‑world applications.
  • Driven by purpose—motivated to build products that matter and accelerate global research and discovery.
  • Collaborative and communicative—thrives in cross‑functional teams and views engineers, designers, and product managers as partners in solving complex problems.
  • High‑output, high‑ownership engineer—consistently delivers, takes initiative, and holds self accountable for results; moves fast but never compromises on quality.
  • Detail oriented—caring about code clarity, maintainability, and testing; believes great software is reliable, performant, and well crafted.
  • Adaptable and curious—comfortable shifting between modern frameworks and legacy systems, loves learning new technologies, and continually refines craft.
  • Leadership minded—mentors others, influences without ego, and raises the standard for those around.
  • Resilient under change—performs well in a fast‑paced, evolving environment and sees change as an opportunity to innovate rather than an obstacle.
