Job summary

Tyce is building the AI-driven backend for a bold vision in the construction industry. You’ll own core backend systems, APIs, data models, and integrations, making architectural calls that impact the whole platform.

You should be comfortable cross-skilling into frontend tasks when needed, and you’ll work in a lean stack including FastAPI, PostgreSQL, TypeScript and AWS to deliver secure, scalable solutions.

Construction is a $17 trillion global industry, and it runs on human expertise that doesn't scale, so we're building the AI that understands what to build and how to build it.

We start with the costliest problems general contractors face: the multi-million-dollar bidding and estimating decisions that off-the-shelf AI tools can't touch. Tyce is already live in production with industry landmark general contractors, estimating costs on multi-million-dollar builds and helping them win more bids.

Role Overview

You'll own the backend's backbone: the APIs, data model, integrations, and systems everything else stands on. This is a foundational hire, you'll make real architectural calls, not just execute someone else's spec, and you'll drop into the frontend whenever the product needs it.

We're on a modern, lean stack: React Router, TypeScript, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Pydantic-AI, Logfire, AWS.

What You'll Do

You'll own the backend's backbone: the APIs, data model, integrations, and systems that everything else stands on:

• Build core backend systems in FastAPI + PostgreSQL: APIs, data model, auth, org structure and permissions.
• Design backend systems for security, multi-tenancy, reliability, and observability that scale with the product.
• Work across the stack in React / TypeScript whenever the product needs it.
• Ship features day-to-day and make the architectural decisions that shape how the platform grows.
• Build and evolve Tyce’s product platform, accelerating development across multiple product lines and features.
• Maintain high standards for security, privacy, and system reliability, particularly in handling complex construction data.
• Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with product, design, and customer success to ship and support integrations with real users.

What You Have

• Mid-to-senior backend engineering experience, with real production systems you've shipped and maintained.
• Expert-level Python; strong TypeScript / React.
• A go-getter mindset: personal agency, fast learning, strong verbal and written communication.
• Familiarity with or interest in enterprise SaaS patterns, such as role-based access control (RBAC), feature flag systems, and third-party integrations is a plus.
• Strong programming skills and general Computer Science knowledge.

Nice to Have

Any of these is a strong plus, tell us your superpower:

• Built B2B apps with security, authentication, org structure, and third-party integrations.
• AWS experience.
• Built integrations with APIs like Google Drive, SharePoint, or similar.
• Worked with AI agents and understand the plumbing around LLMs.
• Product sense and general design thinking.
