Position
The Senior Financial and Payroll Analyst is responsible for:
- Preparing and overseeing funder budgets and financial reports for City of Toronto
- Detailed analysis for quarterly budget projections and annual budget preparation
- Audit preparation
- Backup support to the Senior Manager of Finance
- Other Finance administrative functions

Key Responsibilities
- Remains current with all relevant YWCA Policies, government legislation and changes to the Collective Agreement and employee/employer benefits; assess financial impact and communicate findings to the Senior Manager of Finance.
- Prepare monthly trial balance, accruals, payroll cost and benefit entries and inputs into the accounting system; provide detailed salary expense reports across the Association.
- Review and analyze monthly payroll committed reports to ensure accuracy.
- Prepare and distribute monthly payroll reports to each program.
- Update and analyze the master payroll and budget workbook with program managers, directors and the Senior Payroll Administrator.
- Review, analyze and reconcile payroll budget for programs for quarterly meetings and annual budget preparation.
- Conduct research, calculate benefits rates and make recommendations for each budget year.
- Perform detailed analysis and reconciliations of all payroll-related balance sheet accounts and consolidate statements at year-end.
- Act as ongoing point of contact with Managers to ensure payroll budgets are correct and analyze payroll data (> $25 million).
- Provide payroll-related proposals and ad-hoc reports as required.
- Oversee, coordinate and prepare financial components of budget submissions, quarterly and annual reports for City-funded programs.
- Assist in reviewing programs budgets at budget time to ensure inter-program reconciliation and proper accounting for salaries during the annual audit.
- Review and reconcile organization-wide balance sheet accounts and reconcile fundraising revenue entries with the accounting system.
- Prepare fundraising reconciliation reports for year-end audit.
- Reconcile bank accounts and analyze issues related to housing and program accounts.
- Assist with financial monitoring and program audits required by funders.
- Assist with budget preparation, quarterly forecasts, and ensure correct entry of budget information in the accounting system.
- Provide support for general journal entries, monthly financial cycle, HST claims, and accounting software administration.
- Assist with year-end closing and preparation of audit working papers; interact with auditors; troubleshoot program-specific information with Program Managers and Business Administrators.
- Provide software support (e.g., GP and Management Reporter) as needed.
- Research taxation issues with Canada Revenue Agency and assist with submissions to the provincial Ministry of Finance.
- Ensure payroll filing system documents are up to date and organized.
- Undertake special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance and Information Technology and the Senior Manager of Finance, including updates to accounting policies.
Qualifications
- Three to five years of directly related work experience, including working with complex databases.
- Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Advanced MS Excel skills including Macros, Pivot tables, and V-lookup; working knowledge of Excel (VBA).
- Advanced competency with accounting software (GP Dynamics and Management Reporter preferred).
- Knowledge of the social service sector and awareness of women’s issues.
- Knowledge of culturally diverse communities.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills with ability to meet deadlines.
- High accuracy and attention to detail; ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds; positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strategic thinking and ability to anticipate needs.
- Experience working with volunteers or committees.
- Uses good judgment and discretion with confidential information.
