A leading consulting firm located in Edmonton is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst. The candidate will supervise a team, manage accounting and financial reporting for lease agreements, and ensure compliance with IFRS. A strong understanding of lease accounting and experience with tools like CoStar, Oracle, and BlackLine is essential, along with effective communication and organizational skills. A professional accounting designation and supervisory experience are preferred.

Qualifications

Overview

Your Opportunity

An opportunity exists for a Senior Financial Analyst in our Financial Reporting department to lead a high performing team responsible for the accounting and financial reporting related to Stantec’s global corporate real estate portfolio and equipment leasing activities.This is a permanent position in the Edmonton office.

Responsibilities

Your Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising and mentoring Accounting Technicians and Analysts
  • Reviewing lease contracts and checklists to ensure compliance with IFRS
  • Reviewing sublease contracts and related cease use or sublease calculations
  • Verifying the accuracy of updates in CoStar, our lease management database
  • Reviewing and approving complex journal entries.
  • Reviewing numerous related balance sheet reconciliations and continuities
  • Preparing and reviewing related financial statement note disclosures
  • Completing your responsibilities in our 5-day period end close process to ensure accurate and timely generation of financial statements
  • Reviewing all recurring lease payments for North America
  • Coordinating lease accounting support for global finance services teams and the acquisition and annual budget processes
  • Ensuring compliance with company policies, practices, and procedures
  • Ensuring key controls covering your areas of responsibilities related to Stantec’s SOX and internal control program are complied with
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements and maintain related documentation
  • Responding to internal and external audit requests
Capabilities and Credentials

Your Capabilities and Credentials

A strong understanding of real estate or other leases agreements and experience with lease accounting in accordance with IFRS 16 is required.

Experience with CoStar Real Estate Manager, Oracle and BlackLine would be considered an asset.

Other required qualifications include:

  • Effective communication skills, including written and oral English language competency
  • A very high degree of accuracy in analyzing contracts and financial information
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple competing priorities and firm deadlines
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Teams
  • Well-developed leadership skills, demonstrating initiative and assertiveness
Education and Experience

The ideal candidate has attained or is close to attaining a professional accounting designation. A minimum of five years of experience in accounting and financial reporting is required, with two years of supervisory experience, preferably with an international company.
