Senior Financial Analyst

Summary:

The senior financial analyst plays an important role in supporting the integration of strategic financial planning, resource allocation, and institutional decision-making as well as special projects. This position provides expert analysis, modeling, forecasting, and reporting to inform university leadership and governance bodies. Working collaboratively across the unit as well as colleges and departments, the senior financial analyst contributes to multi-year planning and supports budgeting and reporting processes, ensuring alignment between financial strategy, stewardship, and institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supports the development and implementation of the university's multi-year financial plan, including forecasting, scenario planning, and risk identification
  • Evaluates and advises on the financial, operational, and strategic implications of university initiatives, identifying synergies, risks, and opportunities for optimal resource allocation
  • Provides input and makes recommendations on tuition and fee planning, financial modeling, internal controls, and continuous improvement strategies
  • Prepares and analyzes complex financial reports, forecasts, and confidential materials including salary modeling and workforce planning.
  • Delivers strategic financial advice and management accounting support to internal stakeholders including colleges, administrative units, governance bodies as well as external stakeholders, when appropriate
  • Drafts high-quality briefing notes, reports, correspondence, and recommendations for senior leadership and governance committees, ensuring clarity, accuracy and strategic alignment
  • Collaborates on special initiatives and projects by conducting research, mapping current and future states, and contributing to the development of project charters, business cases and implementation plans
  • Complies with university policies and procedures, promoting transparency, accountability and alignment across colleges and departments
  • Builds and maintains strong cross-functional relationships to support university priorities, strategic planning and integrated financial management
  • Communicates and acts in a respectful and professional manner, collaborates effectively, abides by policy, and contributes to a positive and productive work and learning environment
  • Engages in continuous learning by participating in activities, training, and events related to Indigenous engagement, reconciliation, equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Demonstrates respect and dignity for all members of the community, actively contributes to an environment of acceptance and inclusion of others and responds to different perspectives from a place of curiosity, respect, and non-judgement
  • Undertakes related duties, as assigned, consistent with the nature of the position.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or a related field
  • A professional accounting designation required
  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in financial management, budgeting and analysis demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and independence
  • Proven expertise in financial research, analysis and preparation of complex financial reports and forecasts
  • Experience in project management including planning, execution and reporting
  • Knowledge of or experience in post-secondary education or the public sector is an asset, with an understanding of its financial frameworks and governance structures
  • Demonstrated adaptability in dynamic work environments, with the ability to respond effectively to evolving priorities and strategies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • High level of professional judgment, discretion, and integrity in handling confidential and sensitive information. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a creative and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving
  • Sound knowledge of business information systems and financial tools; familiarity with university financial systems and principles is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel.
