Responsibilities

• Monthly review of AP balances and aging; ensure ledger alignment.
• Represent the ministry in cross-ministry financial initiatives.

Role Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Analyst plays a critical role in executing the end-to-end consolidation of financial data across diverse operational units. This includes leading the reconciliation of complex inter‑entity transactions, validating cross‑ministry financial inputs, and applying advanced financial analysis to ensure the integrity and accuracy of consolidated statements.

The role demands a deep understanding of public sector accounting standards, financial systems integration, and internal control frameworks. By driving the development and refinement of consolidation methodologies, the Analyst enhances the Ministries’ financial governance, supports audit preparedness, and contributes to high‑level decision‑making through precise, data‑driven insights.

Job responsibilities are included but not limited to:

• Preparation of consolidated Ministry financial statements in accordance with the Government of Alberta directives and Public Sector Accounting Standards.
• Prepare, analyze and reconcile working papers to support the information in the financial statements.
• Reviewing of financial transactions to ensure conformity with applicable standards and Government of Alberta/Health financial directives and policies.
• Prepare Accounts Payable and Payroll conciliation to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data from 1GX. Coordinate and fix the data when errors are identified.
• Monthly review of the balances and aging report in the accounts payable sub‑ledger and ensure that they agree to the balances in the main ledger.
• Representing the ministry in cross‑ministry and intra‑ministry financial and accounting initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

• Accounting designation plus 3 years additional related experience.
• University graduation in a related field plus 5 years progressively responsible related experience.
• Related diploma plus 7 years directly related experience.

Assets:

• Proficient knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), practices and methodologies especially with the Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS).
• Strong understanding of financial systems preferably with experience with 1GX SAP Reporting Tools.
• Well‑developed and demonstrated knowledge and experience with financial internal controls.
• Experience consolidating financial statements across a large organization including but not limited to reconciling complex inter‑entity transactions, validating cross ministry financial inputs and applying advanced financial analysis.
• Ability to interpret government and departmental financial legislation, regulations and policies - Financial Administration Act, Sustainable Fiscal Planning and Reporting Act, Government Organization Act and various TBF directives and guidelines.
