Job summary

Soletanche Bachy Canada, part of the VINCI group, is seeking a Senior Estimator to lead major project tender pursuits across Canada. You will own each pursuit from estimation through submission, shaping commercial strategy, managing risk, and coordinating internal and external stakeholders to deliver a winning bid.

Upon award, you will lead the handover to construction and project delivery teams, stay involved to support a strong start, and present to senior leadership on estimates and risk.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years estimating or construction experience in deep foundations, ground improvement, excavation support, tunnelling or geotechnical construction.
• Proven track record leading tender pursuits from start to submission.
• Experience with design-bid-build, design-build and collaborative contracts.
• Knowledge of Canadian contracts such as CCDC is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead major project tender pursuits with key internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare estimates, evaluate tenders, and shape bid strategy including pricing approach.
• Review documents for scope gaps and commercial exposure.
• Manage risk throughout tendering and guide subcontract negotiations.
• Present to senior leadership and mentor estimators and coordinators.
• Oversee handover to construction and project delivery teams after award.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

SB Canada is hiring a Senior Estimator to lead tender pursuits for our Major Projects group, which covers projects across Canada. You will own each pursuit from start to submission: building the estimate, shaping the commercial strategy, managing risk, and bringing together the internal and external stakeholders needed to deliver a winning, profitable bid.

When a project is awarded, you will lead the handover to the construction and project delivery teams and stay involved to support a strong start. This role suits a seasoned estimator who combines technical depth with commercial judgment and is comfortable presenting to senior leadership.

Tender leadership

• Lead major project tender pursuits, managing the involvement of key internal and external stakeholders.
• Lead the preparation, cost estimation, commercial evaluation and execution of major project tender submissions.
• Develop bid strategy with engineering, operations and leadership, including means and methods, schedule and pricing approach.
• Review tender documents and contract terms to identify scope gaps, commercial exposure and opportunities.

Risk and commercial management

• Manage risk through the tendering process in a clear and methodical way, from identification through to pricing and mitigation.
• Provide input and guidance on subcontract negotiations, focusing on favourable commercial terms while mitigating risk.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing and scope for completeness and value.

Reporting and leadership

• Prepare high-level summaries and presentations of tender pursuits for senior management review.
• Guide and mentor estimators and coordinators on the Major Projects team.
• Attend client and stakeholder meetings, site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.

Project handover

• On project award, lead the transition to the construction and project delivery teams.
• Provide a formal handover and ongoing support to project delivery and construction teams.

Health and safety

• Be an active participant in SB Canada’s Health and Safety Program, helping to foster a positive safety culture as we continue to move from compliance to care.

Qualifications – What Will Make You Successful

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience

• 10+ years of estimating or construction experience in deep foundations, ground improvement, excavation support, tunnelling, or geotechnical construction.
• Proven track record leading large, complex tender pursuits from start to submission.
• Experience with a range of delivery models, such as design-bid-build, design-build and progressive or collaborative contracts.
• Experience in deep foundations, geotechnical or ground engineering works is a strong asset.

Soft Skills

• Strong commercial judgment and a structured approach to risk.
• Confident presenter able to summarize complex pursuits for senior leadership.
• Skilled negotiator and relationship builder with clients, partners and subcontractors.
• Organized and calm under tight tender deadlines.
• Collaborative leader who brings engineering, operations and commercial teams together.

Preferred Skills

• Bilingual in English and French.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as HCSS HeavyBid or B2W, and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam.
• Working knowledge of scheduling tools such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
• Strong understanding of CCDC and other standard Canadian construction contracts.
• Willingness to travel across Canada as required.

Required Designations or Certifications

• None required. P.Eng., PQS or GSC designation is an asset.
