Job summary

Ledcor is seeking a Senior Estimator to join our Oshawa-based team supporting a major GO Transit infrastructure project. You will oversee all estimating activities from concept budgeting to bid submissions, lead pricing and subcontractor procurement, and ensure accuracy of all costs.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 10 years of estimating experience on complex projects. Proficiency in MS Office and estimating software is essential, with BIM knowledge

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of estimating and/or related construction experience.
  • Experience on large, complex multidisciplinary construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Transit, transportation, civil, heavy infrastructure, rail, or major public-sector project experience is a strong asset.
  • Leadership of estimates from conceptual design through tender submission.
  • Proficient with MS Office and estimating software.
  • Knowledge of BIM and model-based estimating is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of construction methods, equipment, and schedules.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specs, and contract documents.
  • Proven ability to manage tenders, bids, and proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and coordination of comprehensive estimate packages, including quantity takeoffs, costing, and bid submissions.
  • Develop conceptual budgets and detailed estimates for complex projects.
  • Review drawings and bid documents to ensure requirements are included in estimates.
  • Analyze RFIs and determine bidding strategies for complex requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for large-scale projects and oversee the takeoff process.
  • Lead subcontractor and supplier solicitation activities and evaluate submissions.
  • Recommend subcontractors and suppliers for project awards based on scope, pricing, and risk.
  • Validate all direct and indirect project costs to ensure estimate accuracy.
  • Assign bid package responsibilities within the estimating team and manage schedules.
  • Review construction schedules and execution strategies to align with estimates.
  • Lead estimate review meetings and bid strategy discussions.
  • Prepare bid clarifications and support proposal development for major projects.
  • Mentor junior estimators and cross-functional teams.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our team in Oshawa, Ontario, supporting a major GO Transit infrastructure project. This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all estimating activities, from conceptual budgeting and detailed cost estimates to competitive bid submissions and subcontractor procurement.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of comprehensive estimate packages, including quantity takeoffs, costing, subcontractor pricing, and bid submissions.
  • Develop conceptual budgets, detailed estimates, cost studies, and competitive tenders for complex construction projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, terms, conditions, and bid documents to ensure all project requirements are incorporated into estimates.
  • Analyze outstanding RFIs and identify appropriate bidding strategies for complex project requirements.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for large-scale projects and oversee the quantity takeoff process, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Lead subcontractor and supplier solicitation activities and evaluate submissions.
  • Recommend subcontractors and suppliers for project award based on scope, pricing, capability, and risk assessment.
  • Take ownership of estimate accuracy by reviewing and validating all direct and indirect project costs.
  • Assign and manage bid package responsibilities within the estimating team.
  • Review construction schedules and execution strategies to ensure alignment with estimate assumptions and project objectives.
  • Lead estimate review meetings and participate in bid strategy discussions.
  • Prepare bid clarifications and support proposal development for major projects.
  • Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical expertise to junior estimators and cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on estimating-related requirements and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of estimating and/or related construction experience.
  • Proven experience working on large, complex, multidisciplinary construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience within transit, transportation, civil, heavy infrastructure, rail, or major public-sector projects is considered a strong asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading estimates from conceptual design through competitive tender submission.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and industry-standard estimating software.
  • Knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and model-based estimating is considered an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of modern construction methods, practices, equipment, and execution strategies.
  • Strong ability to interpret and analyze construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction costs, budgeting principles, and project scheduling.
  • Proven ability to manage and close complex tenders, bids, and proposals.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to influence decision-making and present complex information to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong relationship-building skills with internal teams, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and clients.
Working Conditions
  • Site-based role in Oshawa, Ontario.

Compensation

$116,550.00 - $155,400.00

This is the expected base pay range for this role. Individual base pay will be determined based on a variety of factors including experience, knowledge, skills, education and location.
