Hiring: Senior Estimator - Civil Construction

Location: Cranbrook, BC – On-site

Duration: Permanent

Overview

As our Senior Estimator, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our work by preparing detailed, accurate, and competitive cost estimates. Your expertise ensures every bid reflects both precision and opportunity. Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Superintendents, and senior leadership, you’ll evaluate project requirements, assess risks, and build estimates that help us win and deliver the right projects — safely, efficiently, and profitably. Your insight to the sustainability of potential projects will help shape our future workload.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review project plans, specifications, and documentation to determine the full scope of work
  • Conduct site visits to assess conditions, gather key data, and anticipate potential challenges
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil projects — including roads, bridges, utilities, infrastructure and grading
  • Analyze quantities, materials, labour, and equipment requirements for each project phase
  • Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure accuracy and competitiveness
  • Utilize historical data, cost databases, and industry benchmarks to inform and validate pricing
  • Identify risks, assumptions, and potential cost variances and communicate them clearly to stakeholders
  • Provide value engineering recommendations to improve cost efficiency While enhancing quality and safety
  • Collaborate in preparing bid proposals and presentations for competitive tenders
  • Maintain organized and detailed records of cost data and estimate documentation for reference and analysis
  • Mentor junior estimators and contribute to the continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools

Qualifications & Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Civil Construction Estimator or Senior Estimator in heavy civil construction
  • A degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, or equivalent field experience
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and project delivery methods
  • Proficiency with construction estimating software and tools
  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills
  • Keen attention to detail and accuracy in cost development and documentation
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and field teams
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean record and willingness to travel to project sites as needed
  • A problem-solving mindset and commitment to continuous improvement
