Job summary

AtkinsRéalis in Canada seeks a Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer for a casual role in the Kootenay Region. You will lead projects, allocate technical teams, and mentor junior staff across Cranbrook, Fernie, Trail or Nelson offices.

You will interface with clients, First Nations and regulators, ensure safety, manage budgets and schedules, and help grow revenue while upholding quality and ethics. Required: Diploma or Bachelor’s in Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry or Environmental

• Solid knowledge of environmental standards and guidelines applicable to British Columbia and Canada.

Responsibilities

• Senior level project management including development of technical programs, budgeting and scheduling.
• Mentor junior environmental professionals and staff.
• Interface with clients, First Nations and regulatory bodies as appropriate.
• Identify risks to quality and profitability and develop mitigation strategies.

Overview

Our Kootenay Team specializes in managing contaminated sites through comprehensive site investigation, risk assessment, and customized remediation and risk management plans. We support many sectors across AtkinsRéalis from transportation, infrastructure, water, power & renewables, and many more. In the Kootenay region, there is a strong focus on mine site investigation, remediation and closure planning.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer on a casual basis. They will be part of a team of 30+ staff across the Kootenay Region and over 150 people across British Columbia. They will promote collaboration within the Environment Practice and with other divisions across AtkinsRéalis. They will provide project leadership skills by allocating technical teams to projects, managing or acting in a project management and technical direction role and supporting more junior staff to support project execution.

Locations - Kootenay Region offices in Cranbrook, Fernie, Trail or Nelson; also open to Vancouver & Victoria (BC).

Your role

• Working as a team with a focus on collaboration and instilling a culture of diversity, inclusion and equality across all projects.
• Embracing behavior-based safety and ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed.
• Senior level project management, including technical program development, management of personnel and resources, oversight of budgets and schedules for deliverables, implementing quality assurance reviews, and ensuring client objectives are met.
• Understanding client objectives, technical protocols, guidelines and regulations that apply to the work/projects conducted and the rationale/developmental framework behind them.
• Distributing workload and contributing to group utilization, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance by coordinating resources across the team.
• Mentoring more junior environmental professionals and technical staff.
• Acting as a direct interface between clients and the AtkinsRéalis project team, stakeholders including First Nations and/or regulatory bodies, as appropriate.
• Contribute to growing the group revenue from existing client relationships, developing new business and/or expanding lines of business.
• Identifying project quality/project profitability risks and liabilities and developing strategies to minimize them.
• Ensuring proper implementation and continued use of quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures, including Ethics and Compliance.

About You

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geology, Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Sciences with a professional designation in BC.
• 20+ years of practical environmental consulting experience.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor technical and professional staff at different levels of career development.
• Solid knowledge of municipal, provincial and federal environmental standards, regulations and guidelines as they apply to environmental investigation and remediation projects in British Columbia (and other parts of Canada).
• A technical expertise in the mining sector would be considered an asset. Specifically related to abandoned mine sites, remediation, and mine closure.
• Proven technical writing skills and proficiency in English reading, writing and speaking.
• Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and multiple deliverables accordingly.
• Commitment to excellence with a focus on quality management.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $133,200- $183,200 annually) (Only Applicable to British Columbia). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
