Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Risk Assessor to join the Toxicology and Health Risk Assessment team from an Ontario office. You will act as a technical leader, project manager, and mentor on complex contaminated site projects across Ontario and Canada, with responsibilities spanning risk assessment, management plans, and regulator engagement.

You will contribute to diverse projects in infrastructure, mining, energy, manufacturing, government, insurance, and commercial real estate, fostering growth

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or equivalent.
• Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) under O. Reg. 153/04 is required.
• QPESA is considered a strong asset.
• P.Eng. in Ontario is considered a strong asset.
• 10–15 years of environmental consulting experience focusing on health/ecological risk.
• Experience with Risk Management Plans (RMPs) and Record of Site Condition (RSC) processes.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and managing client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex human health and ecological risk assessments per Ontario regulations.
• Provide senior technical oversight as QPRA and review risk assessment submissions.
• Lead the preparation of Risk Management Plans (RMPs).
• Collaborate with Site Investigation and Remediation teams on CSMs and regulatory compliance.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, quality, and client expectations.
• Mentor junior and intermediate risk staff; guide client relationships.
• Represent clients in discussions with regulators including MECP.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Risk Assessor to join our Toxicology and Health Risk Assessment team out of one of our Ontario offices (negotiable office location). Our team provides human health and ecological risk assessment services in a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, mining, energy, manufacturing, government, insurance, and commercial real estate. Our group is dedicated to managing environmental issues professionally and proactively. Our staff of professionals includes specialists in contaminant fate and transport, risk assessment, risk management, site remediation, and risk communication.

Our team members have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects evaluating human health and ecological concerns associated with contaminants in the environment, identifying risk management measures and providing solutions for our clients to manage their environmental risk.

In this senior role, you will act as a technical leader, project manager, mentor, and trusted advisor to clients and regulators on complex contaminated site projects across Ontario and Canada.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage complex human health and ecological risk assessments in accordance with Ontario Regulation 153/04
• Act as a Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) and provide senior technical oversight and review of risk assessment submissions
• Lead the preparation of Risk Management Plans (RMPs)
• Collaborate with Stantec’s Site Investigation and Remediation team on conceptual site models, soil vapour assessments, and meeting regulatory requirements
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, resources, quality, and client expectations
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate risk assessment staff.
• Represent clients in discussions with regulators, including the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP), and other stakeholders

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and project management experience
• Strong understanding of Ontario contaminated sites regulations, risk assessment approvals, risk management plans and brownfield redevelopment
• Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills
• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to work under pressure and within short timelines
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Valid Ontario driver’s license
• Ability to obtain federal reliability security clearance

Education and Experience

A bachelor’s or master’s Degree in one of the Environmental Sciences (Toxicology, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, etc.), Environmental Engineering, or equivalent

Qualified Person for Risk Assessment (QPRA) under O. Reg. 153/04 is required

Qualified Person for Environmental Site Assessment (QPESA) under O. Reg. 153/04 is considered a strong asset

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario is considered a strong asset

Ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of environmental consulting experience with a focus on human health risk assessment, ecological risk assessment, soil vapour assessment, contaminated sites, and risk management planning

Demonstrated experience preparing and implementing Risk Management Plans (RMPs) and supporting redevelopment projects through the Record of Site Condition (RSC) process

Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams, mentoring technical staff, and leading client relationships

Business development, proposal management, and client account experience are considered strong assets

Pay Range

• Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$92,700.00 - $139,100.00 Annually
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$98,300.00 - $147,400.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
