Job summary

Trillium Rail Partners is seeking a Senior Environmental Inspector to support the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension project in Mississauga, Ontario. You will report daily to the Environmental Compliance Officer and conduct monitoring and inspections to verify environmental protection throughout construction.

The role requires 5+ years in environmental monitoring, familiarity with watercourses and erosion controls, and strong documentation and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or related field from a recognized institution.
• 5+ years of environmental monitoring and mitigation experience on roadway or transit projects.
• Experience around watercourses and erosion/sediment control.
• Spill reporting, effluent containment, and dust mitigation experience.
• Knowledge of environmental inspection methods, regulations, and best practices.
• Ontario project experience of similar scope.
• CAN CISEC or CPESC certification, or proficiency in observing and reporting EC&S plans.
• Strong observational, analytical, and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct daily monitoring and inspections in accordance with the EMS.
• Verify spill prevention, dust and noise controls, erosion and sediment control measures, tree protection, and wildlife exclusion; implement actions.
• Monitor construction around sensitive environments for regulatory compliance.
• Maintain detailed logs with dated photographic documentation of observations.
• Prepare and submit daily monitoring and inspection reports.
• Prepare non-conformance, spill, and other environmental incident reports and notify authorities as required.
• Interface with project subconsultants as required.
• Contribute to Monthly Environmental Report and Sustainability Reports.
• Assist with annual compliance reports and environmental trackers.
• Update Spill Prevention/Response Plan, ESC Plan, and Waste Management Plan as needed.
• Operate environmental monitoring equipment and collect samples as directed.
• Identify risks and provide corrective recommendations to project personnel.
• Liaise with project personnel to promote compliance and continuous improvement.
• Support audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews.
• Drive awareness of environmental protection among project staff.
• Other duties assigned by the Environmental Manager.

About the Project:

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometers farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview:

TRP has a current vacancy for a Senior Environmental Inspector. The Senior Environmental Inspector provides daily reporting to the Environmental Compliance Officer, the Environmental Inspector conducts monitoring and inspection activities of the Works to verify that all appropriate environmental protection measures are properly implemented and maintained throughout construction as well as assist the environmental management team on environmental deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct daily monitoring and inspections of all aspects of the Works in accordance with the EMS.
• Verify implementation and effectiveness of spill prevention and response, dust and noise controls, erosion and sediment control (ESC) measures, tree protection, and wildlife exclusion, including installation, maintenance, and corrective actions.
• Monitor construction activities in and around sensitive environments to verify regulatory compliance and environmental protection.
• Maintain detailed logs of all monitoring and inspection activities, including dated photographic documentation to support recorded observations.
• Prepare and submit daily monitoring and inspection reports to the Environmental Compliance Officer.
• Prepare non-conformance reports, spill reports, and other environmental incident reports and notify regulatory authorities as required and follow-up with them on corrective actions taken.
• Interface with project subconsultants as required.
• Contribute to the Monthly Environmental Report, Sustainability Reports.
• Assist environmental team members with annual compliance reports and environmental trackers.
• Maintain and update as required with environmental specialist support: the Spill Prevention and Response Plan, Erosion and Sediment Control Plan, and Waste Management Plan.
• Operate environmental monitoring equipment and collect environmental samples/measurements as directed by the Environmental Compliance Officer or Environmental Manager.
• Identify potential environmental risks, inefficient practices, or non-compliance issues and provide written advice and corrective recommendations to project personnel.
• Liaise with project personnel to promote compliance and continuous improvement in environmental performance.
• Support audits, regulatory inspections, and compliance reviews as required.
• Drive project personnel’s awareness and engagement in environmental protection initiatives through training, communication, and fostering a culture of responsibility.
• Other duties assigned by the Environmental Manager.

Qualifications:

• Diploma, Bachelor’s degree, or advanced degree in an environmental-related discipline (e.g., ecology, biology, environmental science) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
• Minimum five (5) years of demonstrated experience in environmental monitoring and mitigation during roadway construction and/or transit infrastructure projects.
• Direct experience working in and around watercourses, including application and correction of erosion and sediment control measures.
• Experience with spill reporting, effluent containment, and dust mitigation during construction.
• Knowledge of environmental inspection methodologies, regulatory requirements, and industry best management practices.
• Experience on projects within the Province of Ontario of similar scope and complexity.
• Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN CISEC) or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC), or demonstrated proficiency in observing, inspecting, and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
• Strong observational, analytical, and documentation skills.
• Working knowledge of applicable Ontario environmental legislation and construction best practices.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while supporting a multidisciplinary construction team.
• Attention to detail and commitment to regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship.
• Familiarity and proficiency with Microsoft Products (Word, Excel and Powerpoint).

Working Conditions:

• This position is site-based and requires regular attendance at active construction locations on
  a daily basis
• On-site presence during irregular business hours may be required for rare environmental
  emergency situations (e.g. major spills)
