Job description

Xplore Inc. is Canada’s fibre, 5G and satellite broadband company for rural living. Xplore is committed to the relentless pursuit of an improved broadband experience for all Canadians. Xplore is building a world-class fibre optic and 5G wireless network to enable innovative broadband services for better every day rural living, for today and future generations.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of software developers as we embark on a company-wide transformation. This is your chance to use cutting-edge tools to build software applications of the future, driving a technical vision while leading teams to deliver modern digital and operational capabilities across key Telecom domains such as Ordering, Provisioning, and Inventory.

This role requires a technically leader who remains close to the technology and engineering practices. The successful candidate must possess recent hands‑on Go (Golang) development experience and be comfortable participating in architecture discussions, evaluating technical solutions, conducting code reviews, and mentoring engineers on software design and implementation best practices.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Lead multiple software developers across cross-functional Agile teams, ensuring consistent delivery of business value, predictable execution, and strong engineering discipline
  • Drive AI adoption, modernization of applications, and integrations across Telecom domains (such as Ordering, Provisioning, and Inventory), aligning delivery with platform and enterprise architecture direction
  • Establish and evolve engineering practices for cloud-native delivery on Azure, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, secure-by-design, and operational readiness
  • Act as a technical leader by actively participating in solution design, architecture reviews, technical discussions, and engineering decision-making across teams
  • Provide hands‑on technical guidance to developers and technical leads, promoting software engineering best practices, coding standards, and quality‑first delivery
  • Conduct and oversee code reviews, ensuring maintainable, secure, scalable, and performant software solutions while fostering continuous learning and technical excellence
  • Partner with developers and technical leads to resolve complex technical challenges and drive adoption of modern software engineering patterns and practices
  • Practice servant leadership by supporting developers and technical leads through hiring, performance development, career paths, mentoring, and ensuring a culture of accountability, learning, and inclusion
  • Collaborate with product owners, business leaders and partners on roadmap execution, capacity planning, dependency management, and risk/issue escalation across teams and vendors/partners
  • Ensure solutions meet non‑functional requirements including performance, security, resiliency, scalability, data integrity, and compliance while adopting modern software development principles, frameworks and platforms
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent educational background
  • 8+ years in software engineering roles with 3+ years leading teams (people leadership and delivery accountability) in a product-centric or Agile delivery environment
  • Proven experience delivering enterprise systems and integrations in complex, cross-functional environments
  • Strong technical background with modern application development, APIs/integration patterns, and cloud fundamentals (preferably Azure)
  • Demonstrated experience building software that accounts for performance, observability and security
  • Demonstrated ability to improve delivery outcomes (quality, cycle time, reliability) using metrics, continuous improvement, and pragmatic engineering practices
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate between business outcomes and technical execution
Technical Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software development experience with demonstrated hands‑on programming expertise in Golang (Go). Experience with C# .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or other modern development platforms is considered an asset
  • Working experience building and maintaining Microservices and Web API services using technologies like REST, SOAP XML, GraphQL, gRPC, and Web Sockets
  • Working experience building and maintaining customer facing UIs using ReactJS, NextJS, VueJS, Angular, and/or other JS frameworks
  • Demonstrated understanding of event driven architectures and messaging services using tools such as Azure Service Bus, AWS SNS/SQS, Google Pub/Sub, Kafka, RabbitMQ, and/or equivalent technologies
  • Working experience with Azure, AWS and/or GCP using managed services
  • Strong understanding of containerized application development and management using tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, and/or OpenShift
