Job summary

Wesbell is seeking a Senior Engineering Drafting Checker with extensive experience in structural steel detailing. The role focuses on detailing advanced AutoCAD drawings for telecom towers, rooftop supports, and reinforced foundations, along with QA/QC of drawing packages and mentoring junior staff.

The successful candidate will ensure dimensional accuracy, fabrication compatibility, and adherence to industry standards, while supporting project timelines and internal drafting best practices.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of structural steel detailing experience (telecom experience an asset).
• Proven experience reviewing or checking structural steel drawing packages.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Solid understanding of steel fabrication, welding, bolting, and erection practices.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to mentor and support less experienced detailers.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
• Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Detailing: Prepare advanced AutoCAD drawings for telecom towers, rooftop supports, steel mounts, and foundations; produce fabrication/erection drawings and BOMs; coordinate with engineering staff.
• Checker: Perform QA/QC checks on drawing packages for dimensional accuracy, fabrication requirements, constructability and clarity; provide guidance to junior detailers; help maintain drafting standards and workflows; resolve complex detailing issues; support project timelines and production priorities.

Job description

Wesbell is seeking a Senior Engineering Drafting Checker (locations including Acheson, Calgary and Burnaby). This position will be responsible for detailing and QA/QC checking of greenfield telecommunication towers, rooftop structures, and other structural steel and concrete projects as necessary.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

Detailing Responsibilities

• Prepare advanced AutoCAD drawings for:
  • Telecom towers and platforms
  • Rooftop support structures
  • Steel antenna mounts and accessories
  • Reinforced concrete foundations
• Produce fabrication and erection drawings, including CNC/DXF files
• Prepare detailed material takeoffs and BOMs
• Coordinate with engineering staff to interpret design requirements

Checker Responsibilities

• Perform QA/QC checks on drawing packages for:
  • Dimensional accuracy
  • Fabrication requirements
  • Constructability and clarity
  • Compliance with industry standards and internal practices
• Provide constructive feedback and guidance to junior and intermediate detailers
• Help maintain and improve internal drafting standards, templates, and workflows
• Assist in resolving complex detailing or fabrication-related issues
• Support project timelines and production priorities

EDUCATION (THEORETICAL TRAINING)

• Civil Engineering Technology/Technician diploma or Structural Engineering degree
