Job Description / Duties
Embryology Practice
  • Conduct IVF, ICSI, embryo culture, embryo transfer, cryopreservation, and related ART techniques.
  • Collect, process, and maintain viability of gametes (eggs, sperm).
  • Monitor fertilization and embryo development; select embryos for transfer or freezing.
  • Operate and maintain cryobanks, manage liquid nitrogen, and oversee lab consumables and equipment.
  • Participate in weekend / on-call rotates to support continuous patient care.
Quality & Regulatory Oversight
  • Ensure compliance with Health Canada’s Assisted Human Reproduction Act, including inspections, audits, and reporting.
  • Adhere to and help develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality management systems.
  • Participate in internal/external quality assurance programs and audits.
  • Maintain rigorous records, accurate data entry in government systems, and proper sample/patient identification.
Mentorship & Collaboration
  • Guide, train, and support other embryologists and andrologists in regulated ART procedures.
  • Communicate findings, treatment progress, and outcomes sensitively with patients, physicians, nursing staff, and counsellors.
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaboration across medical, research, and administrative teams.
Qualifications / Required Skills
  • Degree in reproductive biology, embryology, or a closely related field.
  • 3+ years of independent embryology experience in an ART setting preferred.
  • Previous experience in a high-volume IVF clinic preferred.
  • Canadian experience is considered an asset (but not mandatory).
  • Demonstrated skills in IVF, ICSI, embryo grading, cryopreservation, and embryo transfer.
  • Familiarity with Health Canada regulations and inspection protocols is an asset.
  • Experience or familiarity with advanced ART technologies (e.g. time-lapse imaging, laser‑assisted hatching, vitrification).
  • Knowledge of embryo biopsy and egg freezing is an asset.
  • Experience with in vitro maturation (IVM) is a strong asset.
  • Membership or certification in professional societies (e.g., ESHRE, ACE) is an asset.
  • Excellent organization, attention to detail, and ability to maintain focus during extended microscope work.
  • Empathy and effective communication skills, especially in conveying complex or sensitive results.
