Job summary

Ciena Corporation is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our Ottawa team. You will design and implement high‑performance C/C++ software for embedded systems running Linux, with responsibilities spanning design, testing, deployment, and optimization.

The role requires 7+ years in embedded software, strong Linux experience, and familiarity with data‑driven architectures and REST/JSON/XML. You will collaborate with architects and cross‑functional teams, guide junior engineers, and

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
7+ years of industry experience in embedded software development.
Experience applying C/C++ programming for embedded systems.
Experience working with Linux platforms.
Experience developing software for data-driven architectures, REST, JSON, and XML.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Design and develop high-performance C/C++ software for embedded systems on Linux.
Implement real-time OS and networking protocol functionality to meet performance goals.
Develop modular and scalable software solutions aligned with system requirements.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and optimize embedded software to improve reliability and resource use.
Collaborate with peer teams to align on requirements, defects, and delivery schedules.
Guide junior engineers through technical leadership and project coordination.
Drive software project execution by managing timelines, priorities, risks, and dependencies to ensure delivery of high-quality software solutions.
