Job summary

AMD is seeking a Senior Embedded BIOS/Firmware Engineer to join our dynamic team. You will drive hardware/software enablement for embedded customers, lead bring-up and design reviews across Windows and Linux, and produce high-quality technical documentation.

You will collaborate with Field teams, Marketing, Software, and Systems Engineering, applying intimate knowledge of PC/graphics architecture to diagnose complex issues and deliver robust BIOS/firmware solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
• Strong programming/scripting skills: C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python.
• Extensive knowledge of debugging techniques and PC/graphics architecture.

THE ROLE:

We are looking for a dynamic, energetic Senior Embedded BIOS/Firmware Engineer to join our growing team. As a key contributor to the success of AMD’s products, you will be part of a leading team to drive and improve AMD’s abilities to deliver the highest quality, industry-leading technologies to market. THE PERSON:

We are looking for a technical leader with deep expertise in graphics systems to drive hardware and software enablement for AMD's worldwide embedded customers. In this role, you will:

• Serve as the primary technical resource for AMD embedded customers, working across integrated hardware (CPUs, graphics, memory, IO, BMCs) and software (firmware, drivers, OS, virtualization) environments
• Collaborate closely with AMD Field teams (FAEs and Sales), Marketing, Software, Systems Engineering, and Validation to resolve customer issues
• Lead hardware/software bring-up, debug, and design reviews for both internal and external platforms across Windows and Linux environments
• Produce high-quality technical documentation including reports, application notes, white papers, and use-case analyses

The ideal candidate brings intimate knowledge of PC and graphics architecture, a passion for diagnosing complex platform and system failures, and the ability to think creatively under pressure. This is an intense, hands-on role with high visibility and significant impact on AMD's customer relationships and product success.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform Bios/Firmware development, co-working with customer, understanding their board design and use cases and implementing necessary custom changes to Bios/Firmware to enable the board design.
• Help our customers come up with optimized Bios/Firmware solutions, for issues being encountered and/or implementation of new feature requirements.
• Understand and duplicate customer reported issues focusing on Bios/Firmware perspective.
• Support all phases of each assigned issue, including silicon, board, and software bring up, production and sustaining.
• Drive resolution of all customer technical issues by providing direct support to field engineers and working closely with other departments including H/W Engineering, S/W Engineering and Marketing.
• Perform debug and diagnosis of system issues on customer platforms.
• Run competitive performance analysis for AMD based systems based on customer requirements and analyze possible bottlenecks from a Bios/Firmware perspective.
• Participate in conference calls with customers to communicate status and updates
• Document procedures and methods to clarify solutions for customer issues

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Programming/scripting skills (e.g., C/C++, Perl, Ruby, Python) and overall Bios/Firmware development.
• Extensive knowledge in debug techniques and methodologies ideally from the Automotive Infotainment (IVI) segment.
• Extensive knowledge and hands on experience in PC (Personal Computer) configurations (both Software and Hardware) with methods of Troubleshooting.

• Knowledge of system architecture, technical debug, and validation strategies.
• Detailed oriented; ability to multitask through planning/organizing.
• Excellent Communication and Presentation skills.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• Bachelors or master’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
• Master’s degree preferred.
