Senior Electrical Engineer / Team Lead

AtkinsRéalis is growing and looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer / Team Lead to join our regional team to provide staff leadership and support business development activities. In this role you will be responsible for the electrical design and execution of a wide variety of Healthcare, National Defense, Light Industrial, Transportation (Rail and Transit, Ports + Marines, Tunnels), Municipal, Federal, & Institutional projects. You will oversee a team of engineers, technologists, and technicians, leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems, while also providing technical guidance and mentorship. Technical knowledge of LV/MV power distribution, lighting, communications, SCADA, grounding, & fire protection and how they contribute to building energy efficiency will set you apart.

Our Calgary Engineering Services team is dynamic and tight-knit, servicing local projects while contributing to large national and international projects as part of distributed virtual project teams.

Your role within the team
  • Support the Director in implementing methods and procedures according to corporate standards.
  • Manage the human, financial, and material resources of your department.
  • Drive business development efforts and participate in the writing of proposals.
  • Plan project resources and participate in annual human resources processes (recruitment, performance evaluations, resource development plans, training, etc.).
  • Act as a project manager for several projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
  • Participate in and/or lead the design, development, and implementation of infrastructure projects including Functional Planning, Preliminary Design, Detail Design and Construction Administration services. Provide mechanical systems design leadership.
  • Ensure client satisfaction and compliance with project deliverable, budget, and schedule commitments.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members and other stakeholders. Work with construction contractors to quickly resolve onsite issues and ensure conformance to design requirements.
  • Communicate project status, issues, and solutions to stakeholders, including clients, management, and other departments.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and departments to ensure successful project outcomes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

The ideal candidate
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA, and willing to become a member in other provinces.
  • Minimum 12 years’ of relevant experience in Electrical consulting across market verticals, including at least 3 years in managing/coordinating technical teams.
  • Strong business acumen and client facing skills. Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles and relevant industry standards.
  • Demonstrable experience building and maintaining long-term relationships with clients (i.e. understanding client objectives, anticipating and meeting client needs, and growing our business).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and motivating a team of engineers and designers.
  • Willing to travel occasionally within and outside of Alberta.
  • AutoCAD or Revit experience is an asset.
  • PMP designation or CAPM certification is an asset.
