Job summary

Ultra Maritime Canada is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer II to join a multi-disciplinary team developing advanced electronics for naval platforms. You will lead electrical subsystem design, coordinate engineers and collaborators, and produce design documentation to meet project requirements.

The role requires a strong background in defense electronics, the ability to obtain NATO security clearance, and willingness to travel within Canada, the US, and overseas.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in defense or complex electronics.
  • Ability to obtain NATO clearance and work with Canadian/US export controls.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada, US and overseas.
  • Experience with underwater acoustics and military electronics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for electrical subsystems and coordinate other electrical engineers.
  • Prepare and review design documentation (schematics, layouts, data sheets).
  • Prepare cost estimates and report on estimates with team.
  • Interface with customers and act as technical lead in reviews.
  • Prioritize tasks and manage work packages in a deadline-driven environment.

Designs, develops, and tests electrical and/or electronic equipment, components, circuits, or systems. Applies mathematical and engineering principles and methods to designs. Is able to work is independently, as well as lead small-to-medium sized engineering projects and manage technical work packages.

Job Description Senior Electrical Engineer II - Ultra Maritime Canada

The Ultra Engineering function manages a portfolio of specialist capabilities, generating highly differentiated solutions and products by applying electronic, mechanical, and software technologies in demanding and critical environments to meet customer needs.

The Senior Electrical Engineer II will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary project team developing new and innovative electronics solutions to meet customer needs. The Senior Electrical Engineer II will work in a number of specialist areas including low noise preamps, high speed digital telemetry, Digital Signal Processing, and RF design. Lead design efforts for electrical design of various sub‑systems, coordinating other electrical engineers and collaborating with cross‑discipline teams. Design, implement, maintain configuration management and test maintainable hardware and firmware systems in accordance with the company’s procedure and project specific requirements. Preparing or reviewing design documentation for electrical systems (design requirements, schematics, board layouts, technical specifications, and data sheets). Preparing cost estimates or cooperating appropriately with others responsible for reporting the estimate. Apply independent diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Act as a technical interface with customers. Provide coaching and guidance to other engineers, technologists or technicians. Participate in and chair technical reviews. Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline‑oriented environment. Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with 10+ years of experience.
  • Ability to work on Canadian Controlled Goods and US ITAR controlled articles.
  • Candidate must be capable of acquiring a NATO Reliability and Secret security clearance.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with underwater acoustics and military type electronics.
  • Experience with the underwater warfare domain.
  • Project management or technical leadership.
  • Low‑noise analog, power amplifier, and digital design.
  • Embedded microcontroller design (STM32 microcontrollers or DSP based systems).
  • Familiarity with peripherals such as SPI, I2C, UART, RS485, etc.
  • Experience with Cadence design tools, including OrCAD Capture, PCB Designer and PSpice.
  • Familiarity with electronic lab equipment, such a oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Network communication - Fiber Optic Ethernet ATM SONET.
  • Experience with embedded development tools such as Sourcery CodeBench and Atollic TrueSTUDIO.
  • A team‑oriented individual that works collaboratively to achieve team goals.
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude, with capability to mentor others.
  • Self‑motivated, adaptable, and attentive to details.
  • Experience with DSP applications.
  • Competent Assembly and C language programming for embedded systems.
  • FPGA design using VHDL.
  • Master’s degree is an asset, especially in electrical, electronic or underwater acoustics.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada, US and Overseas.
  • Typically, a Bachelor Degree (or equivalent) in a related field and 7+ years of experience within a relevant complex engineering environment.
  • May be required to maintain security clearance.
