Job summary

Saltworks Technologies Inc is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist to join the Electrical Engineering team in Richmond. You will design and build advanced systems, work with senior engineers, and support procurement, field installation, and commissioning at customer sites.

You will gain learning opportunities in electrical design, equipment sourcing, and AI-enabled design improvements, contributing to continuous improvement across workflows and project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • 5–8 years of experience in industrial electrical environments.
  • Experience in electrical design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control panels.

Responsibilities

  • Draft electrical design drawings, single line diagrams, load lists, and cable schedules.
  • Design 480/600V AC power panels and 24V DC PLC panels.
  • Generate BOMs for electrical components and field devices.
  • Create cable schedules and ensure deliverables meet project requirements.

The role:

The Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist is a key member of the Electrical Engineering team at Saltworks. You will work closely with the Director of Electrical Engineering, senior engineers across various teams, and the production team to design and build our advanced systems. You will have ample learning opportunities in electrical design, equipment sourcing and selection, and commissioning our plants on customer sites.

Your main tasks will include:
  • Drafting of electrical design drawings and other documentation including single line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, and other related documentation.
  • Generating detailed design of 480/600V AC electrical power panels for industrial applications as well as 24V DC industrial PLC control panels.
  • Generating electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) based on detailed specifications of electrical components including electrical enclosures, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, transformers, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, and related field devices and equipment.
  • Generating cable schedules based on equipment location and mechanical installation details.
  • Ensuring engineering deliverables meet project requirements, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
  • Ensuring work packages, installation instructions, and required parts are in place ahead of the build schedule. Resolving build inquiries with a sense of urgency.
  • Support the Supply Chain team with procurement of electrical hardware, components, and equipment.
  • Configuring various field devices including instrument transmitters and motor starters and adjusting Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) parameters.
  • Performing pre-commissioning checks on electrical panels, electrical wiring, electrical equipment, and instrumentation including loop checks, insulation testing, etc.
  • Commissioning industrial control panels with voltages ranging from 24V DC to 600V AC.
  • Red-lining electrical drawings for as-built changes.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in support of the Electrical Design team's workflows and procedures.
  • Leverage AI to improve speed and quality of design outputs.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • 5 - 8years of experience in an industrial electrical environment;supporting electrical design, installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial control panels and associated field equipment.
  • Hands-on prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of common industrial electrical hardware components and are comfortable navigating the catalog of major manufacturers for parts such as enclosures, disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks, etc.
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, and cable pull sheets.
  • Basic knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application.
  • The ability to produce electrical schematics in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical (considered an asset).

Salary

Salary: $85,000 to $120,000 per year (negotiable based on your experience, qualifications, and internal equity).
