Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing industrial challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for leading global clients across semiconductors, mining, automotive and more. Saltworks is a 2025 Fast 50 Company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner.
The Role
Senior Electrical Engineer/Technologist is a key member of the Electrical Engineering team. You will work closely with the Director of Electrical Engineering, senior engineers across various teams, and the production team to design and build advanced systems. The role offers ample learning opportunities in electrical design, equipment sourcing and selection, and commissioning plants on customer sites.
Your Main Tasks Will Include
- Drafting electrical design drawings and related documentation such as single line diagrams, load lists, cable schedules, and other supporting materials.
- Generating detailed designs of 480/600V AC electrical power panels for industrial applications as well as 24V DC PLC control panels.
- Creating electrical Bill of Materials (BOM) based on detailed specifications of electrical components including enclosures, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD), disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, transformers, cables, motor contactors, overloads, terminal blocks and related field devices.
- Producing cable schedules based on equipment location and mechanical installation details.
- Ensuring engineering deliverables meet project requirements, internal standards, industry standards, and good engineering practices.
- Ensuring work packages, installation instructions, and required parts are in place ahead of the build schedule, and resolving build inquiries with a sense of urgency.
- Supporting the Supply Chain team with procurement of electrical hardware, components and equipment.
- Configuring field devices including instrument transmitters and motor starters, and adjusting VFD parameters.
- Performing pre‑commissioning checks on panels, wiring, equipment, and instrumentation, including loop checks and insulation testing.
- Commissioning industrial control panels with voltages ranging from 24V DC to 600V AC.
- Red‑lining electrical drawings for as‑built changes.
- Contributing to continuous improvement efforts in support of the Electrical Design team's workflows and procedures.
- Leveraging AI to improve the speed and quality of design outputs.
You Will Be a Great Fit If You Have
- A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or an equivalent field.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- 5‑8 years of experience in an industrial electrical environment, supporting design, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of industrial control panels and associated field equipment.
- Hands‑on prototyping and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of common industrial electrical hardware components and familiarity with major manufacturers’ catalogs for parts such as enclosures, disconnects, circuit breakers, distribution blocks, fuse holders, fuses, cables, motor contactors, overloads and terminal blocks.
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules and cable pull sheets.
- Basic knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and its application.
- Ability to produce electrical schematics in EPLAN and/or AutoCAD Electrical (considered an asset).
