Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer in Ottawa to lead electrical design efforts on federal government projects across healthcare, laboratories, commercial and infrastructure sectors. The role involves autonomy to lead projects locally in Ottawa while coordinating with Montreal and Toronto teams.

The candidate will prepare drawings, specs, reports, and presentations, manage client relationships, and ensure quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• At least 6 years of electrical engineering experience designing building or infrastructure electrical systems.
• Ability to lead the electrical discipline on projects.
• Proficiency with 3D BIM tools, preferably Revit MEP.
• Strong knowledge of Canadian standards and codes.
• Excellent writing and presentation skills.

We are seeking aSenior Electrical Engineerto join our Ottawa office, supporting primarily federal government projects across a range of complex building and infrastructure sectors, including healthcare, laboratories, commercial, higher education, aviation, and rail.

This role offers a high degree of autonomy, with the successful candidate leading electrical design efforts locally in Ottawa while collaborating as needed with multidisciplinary teams in Montreal and Toronto.

The Opportunity

• Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems on medium to large-scale, complex projects, with a strong focus on federal government work(Design electrical systems, including power, lighting, fire alarm, grounding, and electrical interconnection systems, as well as surge protection systems).
• Act as the lead electrical designer, taking ownership of technical quality, coordination, and delivery.
• Work independently on Ottawa-based projects while collaborating with regional teams asrequired.
• Prepare drawings, specifications, technical reports, and presentation materials.
• Present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Maintain strong client relationships, supporting successful projectdeliveryand repeat business.
• Uphold quality standards, support commercial metrics, and contribute to overall project performance.
• Participate in local professional associations and contribute to the professional community.
• Perform calculations for electrical systems, including load analysis, short-circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and photometriccalculations.
• Select electrical equipment and coordinate theselectionand specifications of this equipment with relevantsuppliers.
• Prepare contract documents describing the design of electrical systems and write technical designstatements.
• Contribute to the development of technicalspecifications.
• Coordinate work with architects, contractors, and equipmentsuppliers.

Is this role right for you?

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineeringrequired.
• At least 6years of electrical engineering experience designing building or infrastructure electrical systems.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and lead the electrical discipline on projects.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Experience working in multi-disciplinary team environments.
• Proficiencywith 3D BIM tools, preferably Revit MEP.
• Strongknowledge of applicable Canadian standards andcodes.
• Ability to establishand effectively manage priorities and deadlines; strong organizational skillsrequiredfor our fast-paced and constantly evolvingenvironment.
• Excellent writing skills to communicate electrical system design concepts and strategies both internally andexternally.
• Ability to present technical content to both specialized and non-specialist audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineering (PE /P.Eng) license is highly preferred.
• Experience with power system modeling using SKM,Etap,or similar software.
• Experience working on federal government projects or within regulated project environments.
• Ability to communicate in French is preferred but notrequired.
  • Ottawaoperatesin a bilingual environment, and French language skills are an asset for collaboration on Montreal-based projects.

Ottawa hiring range -The good-faithbase-salaryrange for this role in Ottawa is $101,000to CAD $130,000.This range iscommensuratewith experience, educationalbackgroundand skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note that hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Ottawa will differ.
