Job summary

Bantrel is seeking a Sr. Electrical Engineer SME to provide technical leadership on electrical engineering solutions across EPC/ EPCM projects in Canada. The role supports project execution, mentoring teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards for medium to large-scale energy, mining, and infrastructure initiatives.

The position offers a full-time contract role (approximately 1 year) with potential for hybrid/remote work and site assignments as needed.

Qualifications

  • 20+ years electrical engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Refinery, LNG, Petrochemical or Mining, Metals and Minerals projects in EPC environment.
  • Engineering degree or professional license in electrical engineering.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Mentoring younger engineers as subject matter expert and outgoing to help people.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Previous supervisory and/or lead experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

We are currently seeking a qualified Sr. Electrical Engineer SME to join our Energyteam, this position has the opportunity to either be based out of Leroy, SK or work from one of our home offices or remotely. The Sr. Electrical Engineer will be responsible for providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise in the development and delivery of electrical engineering solutions, overseeing project execution, mentoring engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements throughout all project phases.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate or prepare equipment or work specifications, bid evaluations, award recommendations and vendor document review for equipment.
  • Coordinates engineering efforts in assigned areas between specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers, and contractors and between other groups.
  • Act as a lead technical role over other engineers or project subgroups for completing specific tasks.
  • Act as a subject matter expert mentoring junior Electrical engineers and assist in on-the-job-training of assigned personnel and provide input for their performance evaluations.
  • Prepares or assists in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders.
  • Knowledgeable of and performs standard discipline engineering activities on projects of medium/large size with minimal technical oversight.
  • Coordinate technical issues with other departments on projects including constructability requirements and reviews.
  • Design of medium and low voltage distribution system.
  • Electric Heat tracing design.
  • Preparation of engineering deliverables such as:
    • Hazardous Area Classification drawings.
    • Single/Three line diagrams, control schematics, grounding and lighting drawings, cable schedules, panel schedules and electrical equipment data sheets.
    • Equipment sizing, and electrical engineering/design calculations.
    • Power system studies using ETAP (load flow, fault/arc flash calculations, relay coordination, motor starting and grounding studies).
  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Provide technical direction, assign/review work of engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Understand the standard engineering work planning, scheduling, and cost estimating, and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the application of engineering techniques.
Qualifications
  • A recognized degree or diploma in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited college or university, OR a professional license in electrical engineering discipline from a recognized licensing board.
  • 20+ years electrical engineering experience in Oil & Gas, Refinery, LNG, Petrochemical or Mining, Metals and Minerals projects in EPC environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (Oral and Written).
  • Interested in mentoring younger engineers as a subject matter expert and is outgoing to purposefully help people.
  • Knowledge of industry/regulatory codes and standards.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills.
  • Previous supervisory and/or lead experience is an asset.
