Job description

Our mission is to Profoundly change the standard of care by creating a tomorrow where clinicians can confidently ablate tissue with precision; a tomorrow where patients have access to safe and effective treatment options, so they can quickly return to their daily lives. Changing the standard of care is part of our fabric. We are a group of energetic, problem-solvers focused on innovation, and looking to change the world. We are changing the paradigm for treating diseases such as prostate cancer by using real-time MR Imaging, thermal ultrasound and close-loop temperature feedback control, to gently ablate the diseased tissue with minimal side effects.

If you share our values and want to work in a collaborative results focused culture and want to make a Profound impact in healthcare and your career, here is your chance.

General Accountability

We are seeking a Sr. Electrical Developer to design and develop electronics for medical devices. The role is responsible for designing mixed analog and digital circuitry, debugging system-level issues, and owning electrical system specifications and verification test cases — ensuring designs are robust, well-documented, and verified to meet requirements and quality standards.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design mixed analog and digital (mixed-signal) circuitry — schematic capture in Altium Designer, topology selection, and design analysis — for new and sustaining medical-device products.
  • Own electrical system specifications, defining and maintaining electrical requirements, interface definitions, and design documentation.
  • Develop and own electrical verification test cases and protocols, and execute or oversee verification testing to demonstrate that requirements are met.
  • Debug and root-cause complex system-level issues spanning analog, digital, power, firmware, signal-integrity, and communication domains.
  • Perform circuit analysis and simulation (e.g., SPICE), including worst-case, tolerance, timing, and power analyses, to ensure robust designs.
  • Guide PCB layout and review schematics and layouts for signal integrity, EMC, grounding/shielding, thermal, and manufacturability.
  • Select and specify components, create and manage bills of materials, and evaluate parts for performance, reliability, and lifecycle.
  • Bring up, characterize, and troubleshoot prototypes using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, systems, and software engineers to integrate electronics into the overall system.
  • Contribute to design reviews, risk management (dFMEA), and design-for-test and design-for-manufacture activities.
  • Author and maintain design documentation, analyses, and reports to satisfy design-control and regulatory requirements.

Support manufacturing and suppliers with technical issues, design transfer, and continuous improvement.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline; advanced degree an asset.

Key Attributes
Required:
  • 7+ years of electronics design experience, including hands‑on mixed‑signal (analog and digital) circuit design.
  • Strong analog design skills (amplifiers, filters, data acquisition, power, and sensor interfaces) together with digital design (microcontrollers, memory, and communication buses).
  • Proven ability to debug complex, system‑level hardware issues to root cause across multiple domains.
  • Experience defining electrical requirements and specifications and developing verification test cases and protocols.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design, and with circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Hands‑on proficiency with laboratory test and measurement equipment (oscilloscopes, logic and spectrum analyzers, multimeters).
  • Strong understanding of signal integrity, grounding, shielding, and EMC principles.

Excellent documentation and communication skills.

Desired:
  • Experience in a regulated medical-device environment (FDA 21 CFR 820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971, IEC 60601).
  • Familiarity with EMC and electrical‑safety testing and certification (IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2).
  • Firmware or embedded software experience (C or C++).
  • Experience with low‑noise power amplifiers
  • MRI‑compatible hardware, non‑ferromagnetic design, or medical‑imaging systems experience.
  • FPGA or programmable‑logic design experience.

Design for manufacturability and test, tolerance analysis, and supplier management.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. This role may also be eligible for participation in the company’s benefits programs, such as a group RRSP and medical benefits paid by the employer.

We strive to promote diversity and equal opportunity in the workplace and encourage applications from all qualified individuals, including those with disabilities. If selected to participate in the recruitment, selection, and/or assessment process, please inform Human Resources of the nature of any accommodation(s) that you may require.
