Qualifications

• A minimum of 8-12 years of electrical design or machine and panel wiring experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Create electrical drawings, panel layouts, and material lists.
• Provide technical guidance to other Designers and the Electrical department.
• Update drawings to reflect as-built changes.

Skills

Proficiency in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical

Experience in wiring panels and automated machinery

Understanding of the Ontario Electrical Code

Effective communication skills in English

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Education

Job description

Job Title : Senior Electrical Designer

Location : Waterloo, ON

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Works in a safe manner in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
• Required to work in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company Health and Safety and Other Policies
• Communicate with engineering in order to fully understand sequence of operation
• Determine requirements for design from quote and customer specifications
• Create electrical drawings, panel layouts, and engraved panels using AutoCAD Electrical to required standards
• Create electrical bill of material for purchasing
• Provide technical guidance to other Designers, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical department
• Arrange for any inspections required
• Update AutoCAD Electrical drawings to reflect as-built changes as required
• Ensure that a complete and accurate set of final drawings are available
• Mentoring and reviewing Junior and Intermediate level electrical designers work
• Other duties as assigned

Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skill, Ability)

• Should be proficient in the use of AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
• Should have practical experience in wiring panels and automated machinery
• Must understand the Ontario Electrical Code
• Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret written and verbal communications in the English language
• Must be able communicate effectively with customers
• Must be able to work with others in a fast-paced environment
• Autonomy and Authority
• Receives instructions on specific assignments.
• Expected to work independently to complete electrical design package for individual panels and entire lines or machines according to established standards
• Complex circuits or requirements referred to higher authority for guidance and review.
• Gives technical guidance to Technicians, Electricians and Apprentices with respect to electrical design issues and standards

Education, Experience, and Qualifications

• College or University degree in engineering or related discipline
• A minimum of 8-12 years of electrical design experience -OR- machine and panel wiring experience
• Must have a valid passport and driver's license, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally

Special Requirements (physical demands and work environment)

• Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments (oil, dust, etc.)
• Frequent light and occasional moderate lifting may be required
• Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
• May be exposed to medium to light noise levels
