Major general contractor seeking experienced Senior Electrical Design Manager to focus on ICI and healthcare construction in Toronto. Salary $150k - $200k. Outpost Recruitment is excited to work with our client on this full-time permanent role.
As a Senior Electrical Design Manager you will:
- Manage the electrical design process during pursuit and post pursuit for design build and design assist projects
- Assist in pre-construction services for various sectors where electrical systems are more complex (health care, mission critical, justice and educational)
- Advise on conceptual electrical design and technology approach on building system solutions in order to provide a complete and competitive bid for design build pursuits
- Review sub-trades financial submission and evaluate the bid is competitiveness and compliance
- Support the P3 projects execution team throughout the design process until IFC in order to assure pursuit design intent is implemented
- Review RFP submission deliverables
- Prepare scope delineation matrices and other process tools to assure no scope gaps or scope overlap
- Prepare budget target for the electrical/ICAT scope during the pursuit based on similar projects historical data
- Lead design of construction power distribution solutions and support the pre-construction team during the pursuit and the construction team after the pursuit
- Liaison with the Utilities (power and communications) for new (construction and permanent) site services
- Lead design of life cycle replacement projects for EllisDon managed assets
- Maintain networking relationships with Sub-Contractors, Architects, M&E Consultants and actively participate in promoting EllisDon values in the marketplace
- Understand the electrical and ICAT building systems operation
- Strong understanding of the regulatory, legislative and business environment, as well as procurement requirements unique to the Guaranteed Performance market
- Strong understanding of risk and opportunities for GMP type projects
- Able to find innovative solutions and value engineering for all type of projects
- Attend weekly/monthly meetings
- Participate in pre-construction activities for Mission Critical projects (scheduling, budgets review, tendering, constructability review)
- Review electrical consultants proposals for P3 pursuits
- Review relevant Request for Proposal (RFP) and Project Agreement documents
- Oversee the ICAT scope delineation and coordination between EDS and electrical subcontractor during pursuit and post-pursuit
- Ensure the electrical design solutions are well understood by the Project Team and implemented during construction and operations phase of the project
- Promote NPV evaluation for the competing building systems solutions
- Provide specification insight, benchmarking knowledge, risk mitigation and best practices input from previous projects
- Ensure best practices are followed
- Engage in finding solutions to owner disputed items or non-compliance issues in order to obtain a design solution sign off
- Meet regularly and attend industry events to keep informed with the latest technologies and solutions
- Support the estimating team during the pursuit and the construction team after the pursuit to establish the temporary power and lighting required during the construction
- Liaison with the Utilities (power and communications) for new (construction and permanent) site services
Requirements of Mechanical & Electrical MEP Manager
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Requires 10+ years of engineering and construction experience with excellent knowledge of building-related systems and services.
- LEED Accredited Professional is an asset.
- Demonstrates experience in design and construction with the skills and comfort level required to be an electrical design manager.
- Must have solid knowledge of the governing Codes and Standards for buildings.
- Has solid knowledge of high and low voltage systems.
- Possesses strong project management skills for managing large development projects with diverse resources.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills required. Strong conceptual skills required for developing innovative solution designs.
- Has great people interface skills. Has ability to work on multiple projects and provide ad-hoc solutions.
- Has relationships in the industry with subcontractors, consultants, vendors, manufacturers.
- Great leadership and able to make quick decisions as required.
- Possesses solid working knowledge of common computer applications (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, etc.).
