Job summary

PBX Engineering Ltd. is seeking a qualified Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join the Municipal Utilities team in Alberta.

The role focuses on client liaison, project management, design, site assessments, and commissioning across multiple projects. With 8–12 years in engineering consulting and a relevant degree, you will prepare documentation, oversee quality control, and mentor junior staff while developing software and delivering drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as a P.Eng. or EIT.
• 8–12 years experience in an engineering consulting environment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills.

• Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.

Responsibilities

• Perform client liaison and project management to support efficient and effective project delivery.

• Conduct site assessments and equipment condition assessments.
• Conduct site inspections, construction progress reviews, and field reviews.
• Prepare and manage construction documentation (change orders, shop drawings, etc.).
• Oversee contractor quality control and testing activities.
• Prepare calculations and simulations; prepare cost estimates.
• Produce drawings and specifications, reports, and technical memos.
• Attend meetings and perform system commissioning and troubleshooting.
• Develop software and manage teams, mentoring junior staff as directed.

PBX is looking for a qualified Senior Electrical Design Engineer to work with the Municipal Utilities team and other engineers in delivering projects in Alberta.

About The Role

Working closely with other engineers, the Senior Design Engineer will be a key member of the Municipal Utilities team, with responsibility for project tasks in the following areas:

• Perform client liaison and project management to support efficient and effective project delivery
• Prepare construction-related contract documentation
• Provide constructability reviews
• Conduct site assessments and equipment condition assessments
• Conduct site inspections, construction progress reviews, and field reviews
• Prepare, track, review, and manage construction documentation (change orders, site instructions, shop drawings, quality management forms, test plans, requests for information, as-built drawings, etc.)
• Oversee contractor quality control and testing activities
• Prepare calculations and simulations; Prepare cost estimates
• Produce drawings
• Prepare specifications, reports, technical memos, and other project documentation and deliverables
• Attend meetings
• Perform system commissioning and troubleshooting
• Develop software
• Manage teams and mentor junior staff, as and when directed

Qualifications

Core Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university, or diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology program or equivalent from a recognized technical institute.
• Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA as an P.Eng. or EIT
• At least 8 - 12 years experience in an engineering consulting environment
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Effective interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively deal with a high level of responsibility
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
• Proven organizational and time management skills
• Demonstrated effective project management experience
• Experience managing client relationships
• Eagerness to learn and a positive, professional attitude

• Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code
• Strong computer skills including good working knowledge of the MS Office suite

Compensation

The range of compensation for this position is $124,800 to $166,400 base salary per annum. This salary range is provided specifically for compliance to provincial legislation. The actual salary will depend on the skills, experience, and capabilities of the successful candidate relative to the role and may or may not land within the range specified above
