The Senior Drilling Optimization Engineer supports Precision’s Alpha Technologies product line by working closely with the customer, Precision’s Alpha Remote Operating Center, Rig Automation Engineers, Sales and Operations teams to gain a thorough understanding of the customer’s objectives and ensure Precision delivers high performance high value across Canada and US operations.
This is a hands-on technical position with the responsibility to perform detailed engineering analysis. This position is responsible for the early detection of drilling hazards and the development of recommendations for optimizing drilling operations. Focusing on the entire well construction process to identify opportunities to increase operational efficiency through analysis of on-bottom and flat time operations activities by utilizing pre-determined event fingerprinting, data validation, and Well Engineering & Project Management best practices.

Advanced understanding of fundamentals of drilling practices and procedures
Advanced understanding of down-hole tools and technology
Advanced understanding of directional drilling practices
Advanced ability to interpret changes in multiple time and/or depth-based measurements and how it can be used to recognize improvement opportunities or mitigate hazards
Intermediate understanding of data acquisition systems, measurement devices, data transmission, wellsite data sources and transmission times
Intermediate understanding of data analytics tools and approaches.
Ability and willingness to learn through practical on the job training (both office and field)
Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work with diverse professionals comprising of clients, stakeholders, vendors, operations team, rig team and engineering peers
Contribute to sustaining a positive, progressive, and supportive team environment
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited University
EIT or P. Eng accredited with APEGA;
Experience
10-15 years of related experience
Experience working for Service companies is a requirement
Directional drilling or rig field experience is an asset
Experience with data analytics and reporting is an asset
