Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Distribution Lines Engineer to join the Power Delivery team in British Columbia offices. You will design resilient distribution systems for overhead and underground networks, lead project teams, and mentor junior engineers.

You’ll collaborate with clients, project managers, and cross-disciplinary teams to deliver safe, compliant, and efficient designs while advancing BC’s energy infrastructure and modernization efforts.

Qualifications

  • BC-registered P.Eng required.
  • 10–15 years in distribution line design (4 kV–35 kV).
  • Strong knowledge of CSA standards and utility practices.
  • Experience with distribution design software (PLS‑CADD/SPIDAcalc).

Responsibilities

  • Lead distribution line design teams on utility projects from connections to large reconfigurations.
  • Coordinate with clients, PMs, engineers, designers, and stakeholders for delivery.
  • Prepare and review overhead/underground design packages incl. calculations, sizing, specs, docs.
  • Provide senior technical review to ensure accuracy and standards compliance.
  • Use distribution design software to analyze and optimize low/medium-voltage systems.
  • Apply CSA standards and utility construction practices for safe designs.
  • Conduct site visits and support construction.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency and delivery.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.

As a Senior Distribution Line Engineer with WSP’s Distribution team in any of our British Columbia offices, you’ll help design resilient power systems that keep communities connected and ready for tomorrow.

Working within our Power Delivery subsector, you’ll support low- and medium-voltage overhead and underground distribution projects that modernize energy infrastructure and solve real power delivery challenges.

You’ll lead technical work, mentor others, collaborate with clients and project teams, and grow your influence within a national Power Delivery practice.

Your Impact
  • Lead distribution line design teams on utility projects ranging from customer connections to large-scale system reconfigurations.
  • Coordinate with clients, project managers, engineers, designers, and stakeholders to support seamless project delivery.
  • Prepare and review overhead and underground distribution design packages, including engineering calculations, equipment sizing, material specifications, and construction documentation.
  • Provide senior technical review to ensure design deliverables are accurate, consistent, and compliant with applicable standards.
  • Use distribution design software to design, analyze, and optimize low- and medium-voltage systems.
  • Apply relevant utility, CSA, and powerline construction standards to support safe, high-quality designs.
  • Conduct site visits as required and provide engineering support during construction.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, quality, consistency, and delivery across projects.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, continuous improvement, and the development of practical project solutions.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Degree in Engineering and current P.Eng license in British Columbia.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in distribution line design, including 4 kV–35 kV overhead and underground systems.
  • Strong understanding of distribution line design, construction, operation, maintenance, and utility standards.
  • Experience with distribution and powerline design software such as PLS-CADD, SPIDAcalc, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of CSA standards, grounding, clearances, load calculations, and utility construction practices.
  • Ability to lead and guide engineers, designers, and drafters in a collaborative project environment.
  • Strong problem‑solving mindset with the ability to balance safety, cost, and performance.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering, environmental, planning, and project delivery disciplines.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT:$114,600–$151,800

MB & ON:$104,500–$143,900

NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC:$103,500–$137,400
