Senior Distinguished Engineer – International Card Tech

Lead the technical direction for Capital One Canada’s International Card Technology team, collaborating with technical and business leaders to shape future platforms, services, and tools. Work closely with senior leaders, architects, and cross‑team groups to influence strategy, architecture, and standards across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Influence and have broad impact on International Card Tech and Capital One as a whole.
• Inspire principles and standards for International Card Tech and beyond.
• Identify and drive transformation changes in culture and delivery processes.
• Mentor, coach, and sponsor the next generation of Distinguished Engineers.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices across the team.
• Collaborate with technical leaders to standardize solutions, reduce duplication, and promote reuse.
• Evaluate global vs local solutions and recommend optimal approaches.
• Lead transformational change initiatives and set direction for platform evolution.
• Provide technical judgment to guide key decisions and prevent technical debt.
• Facilitate partnerships with Directors and senior leadership to align business strategy with technology.
• Engage in internal and external technology communities to adopt best practices.
• Represent Capital One as a technical evangelist and contribute to the external technology brand.

Qualifications

• At least 9 years of experience in general software engineering and solution architecture.
• At least 9 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 10+ years of coding experience in Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or Swift.
• 10+ years of full lifecycle system development experience (conception, architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, production support).
• 5+ years working with public or private cloud technologies.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with senior leadership.
