Job description
Role

Reporting to the President of Klondike 3PL, the Senior Director, Transportation will lead the national transportation and logistics network within the Sunrise Farms group of companies. The executive will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods across our vertically integrated supply chain, from farm to fork. A trusted leader within the Sunrise network, the Senior Director, Transportation will collaborate with various levels across the organization, working to establish a strategically focused Transportation department.

Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute a national logistics and transportation strategy aligned with Sunrise Farms’ growth, sustainability, and customer service goals
  • Lead the transformation of transportation operations to support business expansion, including new facilities, product lines, and markets
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize transportation efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels
Operational Excellence
  • Oversee all transportation operations, including inbound raw materials, inter-facility transfers, and outbound finished goods across Canada
  • Manage a mix of private fleet and third-party carriers, ensuring optimal service levels and cost efficiency
  • Oversee the planning and execution of live animal transportation, ensuring compliance with animal welfare regulation and biosecurity protocols
Team & Vendor Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a national team of transportation managers, dispatchers, and logistics coordinators, fostering cross-functional collaboration with production, procurement, sales, and customer service teams
  • Build strong relationships with external carriers, 3PLs, and logistics partners; negotiate contracts and service agreements
  • Establish and monitor KPIs for safety, on‑time delivery, cost per mile, and customer satisfaction
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure full compliance with Canadian transportation regulations, including CFIA, DOT, CCMTA, CCOSH, ECCC, and other relevant regulations and requirements
  • Oversee fleet safety programs, driver training, and maintenance standards, promoting a culture of safety and accountability across all transportation activities
  • Lead risk mitigation strategies for weather disruptions, supply chain volatility, and fuel cost fluctuations
Technology & Systems
  • Implement and optimize Transportation Management Systems (TMS), GPS tracking, and route planning tools to improve visibility, tracking, and performance
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives within the logistics function
Sustainability & Innovation
  • Champion initiatives to reduce carbon emissions, improve fuel efficiency, and explore alternative transportation technologies
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and regulatory changes to ensure Sunrise Farms remains a leader in responsible logistics
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, or a related field (MBA or equivalent is an asset)
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in transportation or logistics, ideally within food processing, agriculture, or CPG sectors
  • Deep understanding of Canadian freight networks, cold chain logistics, and regulatory compliance
  • Proven success in leading large‑scale transportation operations and cross‑functional teams
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Experience with TMS platforms and data‑driven decision‑making
  • Strong decision making and problem‑solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive both independently and in a team environment, taking initiative wherever possible
