Job summary

AltaGas is seeking a Director of Government Relations to lead and shape multi-jurisdictional government engagement across Canada and the U.S. You will advise senior leaders on policy and regulatory matters, translate complex issues into strategic insights, and drive advocacy programs that enable midstream growth and export development.

We’re looking for a commercially minded leader with 10+ years in government relations or public policy in energy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in Government Relations, public policy, or advocacy in energy or related fields.
• Experience navigating federal, provincial and state political/regulatory environments.
• Proven ability to build trusted relationships with senior government officials and stakeholders.
• Experience developing and executing advocacy strategies for complex priorities.
• Strong commercial acumen; connect policy with business outcomes.
• Ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Shape multi-year strategies that support Midstream, export development, and long-term value creation.
• Develop understanding of Midstream priorities and bring that perspective into external engagement.
• Partner with Export Development & External Affairs to advance export vision.
• Build and sustain relationships with government officials, regulators, agencies, and stakeholders in Canada and the U.S.
• Translate policy and regulatory developments into strategic direction, opportunities, and risks.
• Develop advocacy strategies supporting operations, major projects, and market access.
• Advise senior leaders on government and regulatory matters with a commercial lens.
• Represent AltaGas in forums and negotiations with government and industry groups.
• Align leaders across functions to advance enterprise priorities.
• Translate complex issues into clear insights for executives and Board audiences.
