Job description

Join a purpose driven winning team, committed to results, in an inclusive and high-performing culture.

The Senior Director, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering Governance & Enablement is a senior enterprise leadership role responsible for the definition, governance, and automation of engineering standards and policies across the Bank. This role focuses on the \"how\" of technology delivery—ensuring that software development life cycle (SDLC) and architectural policies and standards are consistently applied to drive scalability, reliability, security, and regulatory compliance at scale. By bridging the gap between high-level architecture and engineering execution, the leader enables rapid innovation through the rollout of automated governance and streaming capabilities. By transitioning governance from manual oversight to an automated, streamlined model, the goal is to help optimize the bank's total cost of ownership (TCO) and capital efficiency while enabling rapid innovation across distributed engineering teams.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Architecture Engineering Governance & Enablement

    • Responsible for implementing a multi-year strategy for an automated, streamlined governance approach for architecture-related approval processes, including technology standards and architecture review board

    • Working closely with other enterprise platform teams, define and implement engineering policies and standards, ensuring governance is embedded directly into CI/CD pipelines as Policy-as-Code.

  • Global Ownership for SDLC & Engineering Standards

    • Responsible for the definition, socialization, and mandatory adoption of a unified SDLC across the Bank.

    • Establish and govern enterprise-grade quality gates and automated validation requirements to ensure software resilience.

    • Partner with Risk and Audit executives to ensure technical standards meet evolving global regulatory expectations across Canada, the US, and International Banking.

  • Accountable for establishing and governing enterprise-wide testing standards across all Lines of Business (LOBs), ensuring consistent, high-quality validation of technology solutions across all environments from development through production.

  • Setting enterprise testing principles, standards, and reference architecture, including automation standards in pipelines.

  • Partnering with Data and AI teams to Engineer Agentic AI Innovations

    • Partners closely with Data & AI leadership and engineering teams to enable the safe, scalable adoption of agentic AI patterns across the enterprise, ensuring innovation is delivered within clear architectural, engineering, and risk guardrails.

  • Participate in interactions with regulators, auditors, and examiners globally for required discussions on related topics.

  • Understand and manage the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in architectural decisions, ensuring compliance with operational and conduct risk.

  • Partner with CIOs and LOB leaders to influence and embed enterprise standards into multi-million-dollar technology roadmaps

  • Creates an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Minimum 15-20+ years of progressive technology leadership in large, complex financial institutions in leadership roles.

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Proven ownership of platforms and processes spanning architecture governance, engineering automation, and regulatory control frameworks

  • Strong understanding of distributed data systems, cloud data ecosystems, and the role of metadata and semantics in AI systems.

  • Experience partnering with Engineering, Architecture, Security, Governance, and AI stakeholders in regulated enterprise environments.

  • Ability to translate complex platform capabilities into clear product strategy, roadmaps, and executive-aligned outcomes.
