Job summary

ShyftLabs is a fast-growing data and technology company delivering cloud, AI, data engineering, and modern software solutions to Fortune 500 clients from its Toronto base. We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer who will own complex infrastructure and set DevOps direction, leading by building and guiding a small team.

The role blends hands-on work across Terraform, AWS EKS, GitLab CI/CD, and Kubernetes with mentoring duties.

Qualifications

5+ years of hands-on DevOps engineering, with a track record of things you personally built and shipped.
Experience leading or mentoring engineers, or owning the technical direction of a team or major project.
Deep, practical expertise in AWS EKS, GitLab CI/CD, and Terraform. You've operated these in production, not just touched them.
Extensive hands-on AWS experience across Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, ECS, Kinesis, and Kafka.
Fluent on the command line (Bash, Python) and comfortable writing your own automation and tooling.
Strong grasp of microservices architecture, container orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes/EKS), and IaC methodology.
Proven ability to architect and scale infrastructure across multiple cloud platforms.
Working knowledge of Elasticsearch and log aggregation.
Excellent at documenting your own work clearly, and communicating decisions to both engineers and customers.
A self-starter and closer, someone who takes ambiguous problems and returns working, shipped solutions, and brings a team along with them.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and platforms for all environments.
Write automation, IaC, and tooling including Terraform modules and scripts.
Own reliability; troubleshoot at scale in live systems.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines with automated tests.
Stand up monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and log aggregation.
Collaborate with application developers for seamless deployments.
Set DevOps direction and drive adoption with working systems.
Mentor engineers and raise the bar with hands-on guidance.
Shape team structure and priorities; coordinate with customers.
Evaluate and roll out new tools in real systems.
