Job summary

Husky Technologies TM is seeking a Senior Designer, Development (Electrical) to lead the electrical design of automated machinery from concept through validation to release. Senior Designer, Development (Electrical)

Title: Senior Designer, Development (Electrical)

The Senior Designer, Development (Electrical) will be a key contributor to these product development teams, responsible for designing and delivering robust, safe and reliable electrical systems – from concept through validation and release to manufacturing. Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand design requirements including business needs, customer discussions, internal standards, and industry regulations and propose product definition
  • Solve technical problems including conflicting requirements, system reliability, cost constraints, and manufacturability challenges
  • Mitigate risks through failure mode analysis, risk assessment, design adjustments, and validation test planning
  • Ensure machinery safety and electrical safety are addressed following North American and International standards
  • Lead the design of complete designs for systems for automated machinery
  • Bring expertise in electrical design in the team -- power system sizing and protection, servo system selection and sizing, control circuit design, 3D modeling of electrical equipment and cables on the machine, and in cabinets
  • Utilize familiarity with controls, mechanical design, and machinery to leverage experts in each area of technical design
  • Guide and review validation testing and incorporate lessons learned into future product development designs
  • Lead and participate in team design reviews and check design documentation before release
  • Ensure timely preparation of manufacturing documentation including bills of materials, assembly drawings, part and cable fabrication drawings, wire preparation schedules, and work instructions
  • Support assembly, testing, and installation, and refine designs based on lessons learned
  • Drive improvements in electrical detailing practices to improve efficiency and output quality

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Expert at performing and validating electrical design calculations
  • Familiarity with machinery controls, mechanical design, and injection molding machinery
  • Proven leadership in product development in machinery automation
  • Experience solving technical problems, including reliability
  • 10+ years of product development experience in machinery automation

Additional Qualifications:

  • Understanding of electrical system troubleshooting, manufacturing, and assembly processes
  • Experience with circuit design, drafting, and detailing techniques (EPLAN preferred)
  • Experience with electrical cabinet layout design, modeling, and detailing techniques (NX preferred)
  • Experience selecting and sizing various components (sensors, breakers, contactors, cables, connectors, servo systems, safety equipment)
  • Ability to travel occasionally
