Job summary

GHD is seeking a Senior Civil Designer to join our Engineering Design Organization in Vancouver, Edmonton, or Calgary. You will produce conceptual and detailed civil and water infrastructure designs, manage 3D modeling, and lead design work within Civil 3D environments to meet project quality standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of civil design and modelling experience.
• Experience with site grading, drainage, and road design using Civil 3D (Mandatory).
• Professional Engineer/Technologist registered or eligible for registration in Alberta and/or British Columbia.

Responsibilities

• Produce conceptual and detailed design drawings for civil and water infrastructure projects.
• Develop and oversee design work within an integrated 3D environment.
• Apply technical expertise to complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Act as a technical lead coordinating with internal teams, subconsultants, clients, and external agencies.
• Develop and maintain 3D models including drafting, redlining, annotation, and drawing production.
• Complete water, sanitary, stormwater, roadway, and geometric design tasks with alignments and profiles.
• Utilize Civil 3D corridor and pipe network modules, AutoTURN, and related tools.
• Assist with proposals, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and tender documents.
• Coordinate project delivery to meet schedules and budgets.
• Mentor and support junior technicians on Civil 3D, BIM standards, and best practices.

• Produce conceptual and detailed design drawings for civil and water infrastructure projects, including utilities, site grading, site servicing, road and rail corridors, and transit facilities.
• Develop and oversee design work within an integrated 3D environment, ensuring deliverables meet company and industry quality standards.
• Apply technical expertise and problem-solving skills to complex multidisciplinary projects.
• Act as a technical lead for assigned project scopes, coordinating with internal teams, subconsultants, clients, and external agencies.
• Develop and maintain 3D models, including design development, drafting, redlining, annotation, and drawing production.
• Complete water, sanitary, stormwater, roadway, and geometric design assignments, including alignments, profiles, corridor modelling, and cross-section development.
• Utilize Civil 3D corridor and pipe network modules, AutoTURN, and related design software to support project delivery.
• Assist with the preparation of proposals, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and tender documents.
• Coordinate project delivery to achieve high-quality results within established schedules and budgets.
• Mentor and support junior technicians, providing guidance on Civil 3D, BIM standards, technical development, and best practices.

What you will bring to the team:

• 10+ years of civil design and modelling experience
• Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering
• Professional Engineer/Technologist registered or eligible for registration in Alberta and/or British Columbia
• Proven record of site grading, site servicing, drainage and access road design using the civil 3D software, preparation of all plans, sections, profiles and details drawings (Mandatory).
• Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively within all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion
• Experience managing multiple tasks while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a demanding consulting environment
• Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate work in order to meet required deadlines while complying with procedures and best practices.
• Experience with Construction Administration & Inspection are considered assets
• Interest or experience with new design tools and technologies such as BIM platforms, design programming, visualizations, and automation are considered assets

The salary range for this position is $94,875 - $158,125. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications, and work location.
