Who we\'re looking for
Plan, manage and own the capacity and strategy of National Critical Facilities (headends and datacenters). Ensure space and power capacity is not exhausted in any of our critical facilities. The Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for identifying opportunities to reduce operational costs through site decommissioning or the introduction of new technology. The Senior Design Engineer will act as the single point of contact in concept discussions involving facility (space, power, cooling) expansions (including datacenters) for internal and external customers. The Senior Design Engineer will oversee the yearly capital planning process.
What you\'ll do
- Provide support for new and expansion site design and construction regarding space, power, and cooling
- Review and provide input to Engineering Preliminary Specification (EPS) and Engineering Design Specifications (EDS)
- Manage design and construction firms awarded to each project
- Audit and drive Jira ticket accuracy and completion
- Responsible for the capital planning process
- Develop criteria and analyses (CAs)
- Support capital planning initiatives
- Develop and drive continuous process improvement within Facilities – Space, Power and Cooling Planning and engineering
- Implement and coordinate the activation of projects with the wire line organization and the contractor
- Manage the project by tracking progress and making corrections to the timetable
- Make daily decisions with the contractor and Headend Operations Team
- Develop scope of work and budget as per forecast; initiate the project and develop project plans identifying all elements
- Develop construction documents and manage bids and awards
- Develop a schedule and timelines for the project
- Coordinate activation with the Engineering organization and the contractor
- Monitor and control all project activities; track and manage issues and risks; report progress to management
- Participate in standards development and guidelines
- Manage vendor and equipment road maps along with end-of-life strategies and replacements
- Support peers and operational teams as required
- Drive standards development and guidelines
- Support and help train new team members
What you bring
- P. Eng. or OACETT certified or equivalent
- A minimum of 10 years of technical and facility (space, power, and cooling) project construction management experience
- Experience with head end expansion projects related to power and HVAC capacity upgrades
- Ability to lead complex engineering projects
- Strong working knowledge in electrical, mechanical, civil, and structural engineering principles
- Knowledge of relevant legislation: Ontario Building Code, Fire Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Ability to evaluate, develop and design plans and criteria for engineering products and activities
- Experience integrating new sites into the company\'s network
- Ability to develop requirements and design specifications for existing applications
- Experience reviewing project plans to meet company standards
- Ability to apply advanced engineering knowledge in planning projects and coordinating difficult assignments
- Experience managing complex projects requiring specialized knowledge
- Experience assigning work with clear objectives and priorities affecting other units
- Experience providing expert advice guided by policies
- Decision-making ability within general policies
- A positive attitude toward work safety
- Proficiency with computer software and problem solving through creative and logical reasoning
- Experience managing tendering processes through procurement systems
- Ability to gather, interpret, and report engineering data under tight timelines
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a wide range of audiences
