Job summary

CLIC is seeking a Senior Data Scientist in Mississauga to lead advanced analytics within Group Benefits Pricing, Reporting and Analytics. You will drive predictive modeling, AI-driven insights, and dashboard-based visibility across underwriting, claims and sales in a hybrid setting.

The role emphasizes scalable data solutions, data governance and cross-functional collaboration with IT, risk and governance partners. A STEM degree and 6–9 years of experience are expected.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • 6–9 years of relevant experience in data science, analytics or related field, preferably in insurance.
  • Experience in predictive analytics such as machine learning and large language models.
  • Experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, with knowledge of data warehousing and scalable analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance predictive models and advanced analytical solutions to improve pricing accuracy, claims forecasting, underwriting risk assessment and actuarial decision-making.
  • Leverage internal and external data to identify emerging claims trends, behavioral patterns, business performance drivers, anomalies and potential fraud indicators.
  • Translate complex data and model outputs into clear, actionable insights to support actuarial, underwriting, claims, sales and operations strategies.
  • Investigate, develop and implement machine learning, large language model and agentic AI solutions within actuarial and business workflows.
  • Automate routine analytical processes and digitize workflows to improve efficiency and enable higher-value decision-making.
  • Develop and enhance dynamic dashboards and analytical tools that enable users to monitor key business, claims and financial performance trends on demand.
  • Partner with IT and data teams to improve data accessibility, centralization and scalability, and to support production implementations.
  • Ensure analytical and AI solutions comply with data standards, Model Risk Management and AI Governance with appropriate human oversight.

The Senior Data Scientist provides dedicated advanced analytics leadership within the Group Benefits Pricing, Reporting and Analytics team. The role focuses on enhancing actuarial decision-making through predictive analytics, machine learning, and scalable data solutions. It enables deeper insight into claims, pricing, and business performance while supporting the integration of AI-enabled tools and automation into actuarial workflows.

The role also supports cross-functional analytics initiatives across underwriting, claims, sales, and operations, improving the organization’s ability to leverage data for informed decision-making. Reporting and dashboarding form a supporting component of the role, enabling visibility and insight, but the primary focus is on advancing analytical capability and improving business outcomes.

How you will create impact:
  • Develop and enhance predictive models and advanced analytical solutions to improve pricing accuracy, claims forecasting, underwriting risk assessment and actuarial decision-making.

  • Partner with IT and data teams to improve data accessibility, centralization and scalability, and to support the implementation of analytical solutions in a production environment.
  • Ensure analytical and AI solutions comply with established data standards, Model Risk Management requirements and AI Governance practices, including appropriate human oversight.
To join our team:
  • You have a university degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • You have six to nine years of relevant experience in data science, advanced analytics or a related field, preferably within the insurance industry.
  • You have demonstrated experience in predictive analytics such as machine learning and large language models.
  • You have experience developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards, with knowledge of data warehousing, data management and scalable analytical solutions.
  • You have the knowledge of insurance pricing, claims analysis, underwriting and actuarial methodologies, with Group Benefits experience considered an asset.
  • You have strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including the ability to identify data anomalies, assess modelling limitations and develop practical solutions to complex business problems.
  • You have the ability to translate complex analytical concepts into clear business insights and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • You have demonstrated ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with actuarial, underwriting, claims, sales, IT, risk management and governance partners while managing competing priorities.

Expected salary range $83,774 - $133,774+

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
