Job summary

CGIC is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join the Corporate Actuarial Advanced Analytics team. You will develop and monitor advanced analytical solutions for P&C claims reserving, collaborating with actuaries and BI partners.

Expect a hybrid schedule with at least two days in the office, and an emphasis on governance, testing, and scalable models. You should have 6–9 years in data science or related fields, a relevant Bachelor’s degree, and strong skills in R, Python, SQL, Databricks, and

Qualifications

  • Six to nine years of experience in Data Science, AI, BI, or related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in CS/Eng/Math/Stats/Actuarial/Data Science; graduate studies are an asset.
  • Proficiency in statistics, predictive modelling, and machine learning.
  • Experience delivering production-ready models or recurring analytical solutions.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, and data-engineering tools is required.
  • Proficiency in Databricks and cloud-based analytics environments is an asset.
  • Experience with source control, peer review, testing, documentation, deployment, and monitoring is an asset.
  • P&C insurance experience and English proficiency are assets; non-French duties apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, implement, maintain, and monitor predictive models for P&C claims reserving.
  • Translate reserving objectives into analytical approaches and project designs.
  • Apply statistical techniques, predictive modelling methods, and ML algorithms with metrics.
  • Deliver reliable, production-ready analytical solutions autonomously.
  • Evaluate methodologies for efficiency, accuracy, flexibility and interpretability.
  • Advance measurement, monitoring, and communication of model performance.
  • Integrate analytics into recurring reserving processes and support adoption.
  • Strengthen testing, documentation, controls, and model governance.

The Corporate Actuarial Advanced Analytics team brings together actuarial expertise and data science to develop, maintain, and integrate analytical solutions supporting P&C claims reserving, while improving core actuarial processes and strengthening model monitoring, governance, controls, documentation, and operational sustainability.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will develop, validate, implement, maintain, and monitor advanced analytical solutions in close collaboration with actuaries and Business Intelligence partners.

How You Will Create Impact
  • Develop, validate, implement, maintain, and monitor predictive models supporting P&C claims reserving.
  • Translate reserving objectives into appropriate analytical approaches and project designs.
  • Apply statistical techniques, predictive-modelling methods, and machine-learning algorithms, and develop appropriate performance metrics.
  • Deliver reliable, reproducible, production-ready analytical solutions autonomously.
  • Evaluate methodologies for efficiency, accuracy, flexibility, stability, and interpretability.
  • Advance the measurement, monitoring, analysis, and communication of model performance.
  • Integrate analytics into recurring reserving processes and support sustainable adoption.
  • Strengthen testing, documentation, controls, technical handoffs, and model-risk governance.
  • Make evidence-based recommendations and coach peers on scientific and analytical practices.
To Join Our Team
  • Six to nine years of experience in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Intelligence, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Data Science, or a related field; graduate studies are an asset.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in statistics, predictive modelling, and machine learning.
  • Experience solving complex problems and delivering production-ready models or recurring analytical solutions.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, SQL, and data-engineering tools is required.
  • Proficiency in Databricks and cloud-based analytical environments is an asset.
  • Experience with source control, peer review, testing, documentation, deployment, and monitoring is an important asset.
  • P&C insurance experience is an important asset; claims, reserving, actuarial analytics, or model-governance experience is an asset.
  • This role primarily works with non-francophone groups and teams outside Québec and requires proficiency in English. The essential non-French duties cannot be reassigned.

Salary information

“Expected salary/hourly range $83,774 - $133,700+” (min-max, full range)

Salary placement

“The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.”
