Job description

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate must be located near a Canadian Blood Services site and will be working a mixture of on-site and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement may vary depending upon circumstances.

Overview

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time Senior Data Quality Analyst to join our Data and Analytics Centre of Excellence within the Digital Solutions Technology division. This role supports enterprise data governance by ensuring data is secure, private, accurate, available, and usable across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Query relational databases (SQL / MySQL) to discover, validate, and assess the quality of key data assets.
  • Implement and manage data health checks and validation processes on assets catalogued in Microsoft Purview.
  • Evaluate column-level attributes and metadata to identify quality gaps and inconsistencies.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand business rules and how they apply to data preprocessing and transformation.
  • Support the development of data quality dashboards or reports as needed.
  • Ensure alignment between data cataloguing efforts and practical data quality use cases to support BI and reporting needs.
  • Contribute to the refinement of data lineage tracking and metadata enrichment.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to integrate data quality assessments and reporting into decision-making.
  • Develop strong working relationships with stakeholders and leadership to shape and socialize data quality initiatives.
  • Enhance the reputation of the Centre of Excellence through active engagement and presentation of projects to internal and external audiences.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
  • Completion of an advanced degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., computer science, information technology, computer engineering) or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in data quality with a track record in data discovery, validation, and quality analysis.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with Python, R, or JavaScript for data manipulation and preparation.
  • Strong experience in SQL or MySQL for data discovery, validation, and analysis.
  • Familiarity with enterprise data cataloguing tools, ideally Microsoft Purview.
  • Ability to work with relational databases and manage structured data assets.
  • Understanding of data quality principles (profiling, validation, cleansing, monitoring).
  • Experience or familiarity with Microsoft Fabric, Azure Data Services, or related cloud platforms.
  • Experience in data governance, BI, or enterprise data management settings.
  • Ability to understand business processes, preprocessing logic, and data transformation rules related to data quality.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills; ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience translating stakeholder requirements into technical solutions.
