Job description
Overview

At Cloudbeds, we're transforming hospitality with an intelligent platform that powers properties across 150 countries. We operate with a completely remote team and partner with hundreds of collaborators to help hoteliers transform operations and improve commercial strategy.

Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will design and implement large-scale distributed data processing systems using technologies like Apache Hadoop, Spark, and Flink. You will build robust data pipelines and infrastructure that transform complex data into actionable insights, ensuring scalability and fault-tolerance across our platform that processes billions in bookings annually. You will architect data lakes, data warehouses, and real-time streaming platforms while implementing security measures and optimizing performance. With your expertise in distributed computing, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and streaming technologies (Kafka, Confluent), you will drive innovation and evaluate new technologies to continuously improve our data ecosystem.

Our Data team

We turn complex, messy data into meaningful insights that drive real impact across the organization. We solve data infrastructure challenges at scale, build resilient pipelines, optimize performance, and architect systems that enable everyone from analysts to executives to make smarter, faster decisions. Our culture is built on trust and collaboration, where teammates jump in to help blockers and celebrate collective wins.

What You Bring to the Team
  • Technical Expertise & Scalability Mindset: Deep knowledge of data architecture, ETL/ELT pipelines, and distributed systems with the ability to design scalable, high-performance solutions.
  • Problem-Solving & Ownership: Proactive approach to diagnosing issues, improving infrastructure, and taking full ownership from concept to production.
  • Code Quality & Best Practices: Clean, maintainable code (Python, SQL, or Scala) and advocacy for version control, testing, and CI/CD for data.
  • Collaboration & Mentorship: Ability to work cross-functionally with analysts, data scientists, and engineers, while mentoring junior team members and raising the team’s technical bar.
  • Data Governance & Reliability Focus: Commitment to data accuracy, lineage, and security—building trustable, scalable systems.
What Sets You Up for Success
  • Clear Business Context: Understanding the why behind data needs helps design impactful solutions.
  • Autonomy with Trust: Freedom to make technical decisions paired with accountability for delivery.
  • Strong Team Collaboration: Knowledge sharing, helping unblock challenges, and valuing collective wins.
  • Access to Quality Tooling & Infrastructure: Modern tools (Airflow, dbt, Spark, Flink, cloud platforms) and the ability to improve them.
  • Supportive Leadership & Growth Mindset: Managers who advocate for growth, provide feedback, and create space for learning.
Bonus Skills to Stand Out (Optional)
  • Leadership skills: Guiding and mentoring junior members and coordinating projects.
  • Domain Knowledge: Hospitality industry understanding to enhance data pipelines.
  • Data Architecture Expertise: Designing robust, scalable data architecture and storage.
  • Performance Optimization: Optimizing data pipelines through query optimization, indexing, caching, and partitioning.
  • Programming Knowledge: Proficiency in Python and SQL; Java or other languages are a plus.
  • Remote-First Experience: Experience working with a globally distributed team.
  • CI/CD tooling: Experience with GitHub Actions and build workflows.
  • Cloud & Confluent Knowledge: Familiarity with Confluent and AWS.
