Job summary

Lyft is seeking a Senior Software Engineer, Data on the Mapping team in Toronto. You will own core data pipelines end-to-end, lead the offline experimentation platform, and build scalable data tooling to improve routing quality and travel-time estimations.

You will collaborate with engineers, data scientists, and product managers to scale data systems and enable data-driven decisions that affect millions of riders and drivers. Hybrid in-office schedule with strong emphasis on collaboration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
• 5+ years of backend or data engineering with large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong experience with Spark and a scripting language (Python, Ruby, Bash).
• Experience with distributed storage, querying, and streaming technologies (Clickhouse, Hive, Presto, Delta, Iceberg, Kafka).
• Strong SQL skills (MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar) with performance tuning.
• Hands-on data quality tooling (dbt, Great Expectations, Monte Carlo).
• Experience with Airflow and infra tools (Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes) in AWS.

Responsibilities

• Own core data pipelines end-to-end and define SLAs for pipelines, services, and datasets.
• Serve as technical owner and architectural lead for offline experimentation platform and route simulation services.
• Evolve data models and schemas to meet business and engineering needs.
• Develop AI tools to support self-service data pipelines and perform SQL tuning for data processing.
• Write clean, scalable, cost-efficient code and participate in code/architecture reviews.
• Manage on-call rotations and improve team processes.
• Mentor teammates and promote engineering best practices across the team.
