ATCO Electric in Grande Prairie, AB is seeking a Senior Coordinator, Forest Operations to lead vegetation management programs on transmission and distribution rights-of-way. You will supervise contractor crews, monitor HSE performance, document vegetation conditions, and collaborate with landowners and Indigenous communities.

The role requires strong planning, contract administration, and cross-cultural communication to ensure safe and compliant vegetation control projects across multiple sites.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; technical forestry diploma preferred.
• Experience in vegetation management, ROW work, and contractor oversight.
• Knowledge of landowner relations, HSE, and regulatory standards.

About the Role

The Senior Coordinator, Forest Operations supports the implementation of annual vegetation management programs and is responsible for completing vegetation patrols on Transmission and Distribution power line rights-of-way, documenting vegetation conditions and hazards, and recommending vegetation control treatments. This position oversees contractor crews involved in completing vegetation management programs and the clearing of new rights-of-way, acts as field representative on contracts, monitors contractor worksites and contractor HSE performance, inspects completed work, reports on the project status, and maintains projects records and files.

What You’ll Do

• Supports Senior Forester and/or Regional Forestry Supervisor in implementation of annual vegetation management plans.
• Assesses contractor HSE documents to ensure ATCO Electric requirements are met.
• Prepares cost estimates and execution plans for CCM (new rights-of-way clearing) and capital maintenance projects.
• Participates in job planning, crew start-up, and post completion meetings with contractors.
• Communicates project specific safety and environmental requirements/expectations to contractors.
• Monitors contractor safety and environmental performance - initiates corrective actions when required.
• Investigates Incidents and Near Miss incidents.
• Monitors contractor work activities to ensure compliance with landowner conditions.
• Acts as ATCO Electric’s field representative on vegetation management contracts.
• Completes ongoing and final inspections, reconciles contractor invoices, and reports on work in progress.
• Patrols power line rights-of-way, documents vegetation conditions, and recommends remedial actions.
• Measures vegetation management sites, details the scope of work required, and negotiates with landowners for permission to complete the required vegetation control work.
• Identifies, documents, and marks danger trees and vegetation hazards.
• Negotiates landowner consents for proposed vegetation control work, including access, road-use and pipeline crossing approvals.
• Meets with landowners to mitigate landowner concerns and contractor deficiencies.
• Prepares cost estimates for vegetation control work and clearing rights-of-way for new projects.
• Supports work group and District’s efforts in Indigenous consultation processes.
• Supports work group and District’s efforts in building and enhancing customer relationships.
• Mentors, coaches, and trains the development of employees in Coordinator positions.
• Supports and implements the program execution for compliance with regulatory requirements such as annual Wildfire Agreement and FAC-003.
• Maintains and enhances ATCO Electric’s relationships with Indigenous communities.
• Maintains and develops relationships with industry representatives and government representatives.
• Provide after hours on-call and emergency support when requested

What You’ll Bring

• High School Diploma.
• Technical Diploma in Forestry or related field is preferred.
• ISA certification, UVM designation or certification as a Utility Tree Worker, Utility Tree Trimmer, or Certified Utility Arborist is an asset.
• Registered Professional Forest Technologist or Registered Professional Forester designation is an asset.
• 4 years of experience in vegetation management, right-of-way vegetation control, requirements, best practices and standards, contract administration and contractor management.
• Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and environmental values.
• Knowledge of forest management, land-use regulations, wildfire prevention, and contractor HSE management.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills with the ability to promote effective vegetation control and power line safety requirements to landowners.
• Good planning, organization, and business writing skills.
• Demonstrated cross-cultural skills with a willingness to learn and understand treaties, land claims and traditional land use issues.
• Good computer skills and experience working with databases. Experience working with GIS mapping systems and GPS equipment would be considered an asset.
• Valid vehicle operator license (Class 5).
