Senior Controls Designer

The ATS Test Division specializes in developing custom in‑process and End‑of‑Line Test Systems to meet and exceed the customer’s needs. We are part of the Industrial Automation group with a strong focus on EV products including battery cell, module and pack leak and functional testing but also serve other industries including the Life Sciences group, Aerospace Industry, traditional automotive, specialty products and the growing Fuel Cell market.

ATS Test provides PC‑based solutions for complex test systems that need high accuracy, high data collection and advanced analysis. Our core competencies include electrical functional testing, electro‑mechanical testing, and pneumatic and hydraulic leak and flow testing.

Major Duties

Senior Electrical Designer leads complex projects by designing and delivering advanced instrumentation solutions and electrical test systems, ensuring every project aligns with rigorous safety standards, reliability goals, and specific customer requirements. In this role you create detailed electrical design documentation—including schematics, cable routing diagrams, panel layouts, bills of materials, and requisition forms—to support seamless project execution and integration.

Specific Responsibilities

• Lead design projects to deliver advanced solutions and electrical test systems;
• Exhibit mastery in at least one specialized skill area (e.g., IP tester, pneumatic/hydraulic systems, solar tester), with a strong understanding of related technologies.
• Review and approve drawing packages for design content, accuracy, and safety, ensuring compliance with industry and company standards.
• Mentor and coach other designers, actively supporting team development and contributing expertise across multiple projects beyond personal workload.
• Independently schedule and manage own projects, collaborating with project managers to ensure timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals.
• Represent the division to customers on‑site, leveraging technical expertise to support sales initiatives and strengthen client relationships.
• Manage customer interactions at a technical level, facilitating smooth project execution and reducing the project manager’s technical workload.
• Drive continuous improvement by enhancing department methods, practices, and tools, under the direction of the department manager.
• Proactively identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies and methods relevant to the industry and ATS Test System products.
• Contribute to the achievement of departmental and company‑wide improvement goals, assisting in the development and execution of strategic objectives.
• Ensure all business activities are conducted with the highest ethical standards and in full compliance with the ATS code of business conduct.

Qualifications

Education:

• A post‑secondary technology diploma or engineering equivalent;

Experience:

• A minimum of 10 years related electrical design experience including a minimum of 5 years designing electronic test equipment.
• Complete knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical and the ability to keep abreast of leading‑edge instrumentation technology is essential.
