Job summary

Deloitte Canada is seeking a Senior Consultant - GCP Data & AI Architect to join its Hybrid Toronto team. You will architect and lead delivery of modern data platforms on Google Cloud, coordinating 4–6 engineers and mentoring junior staff on enterprise engagements.

You should have 7–10 years in tech with 4–6 years on Google Cloud, strong governance, security fluency, and hands-on SQL/Python experience. The role offers a collaborative, client-facing environment with strong career development.

Responsibilities

• Architect and lead delivery of modern data platforms on Google Cloud — data lakes, lakehouses, and warehouses built on BigQuery, Dataproc, Dataflow, Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.
• Design ingestion, transformation, and serving layers using Dataform / dbt, Composer (Airflow), and BigQuery-native patterns; drive migrations from Teradata, Netezza, on-prem Hadoop, or other clouds.
• Stand up the governance backbone — Dataplex catalog, lineage, quality rules, row/column-level security, VPC-SC — so downstream analytics and AI workloads are safe and auditable.
• Partner with our GCP Agent Platform Architects to make the semantic layer, retrieval indices, and feature stores that Gemini agents and Vertex AI models depend on.
• Lead 2–4 engineers on the delivery team; contribute to Deloitte's data-platform reference architectures, accelerators, and enablement.

What will your typical day look like?

As our ideal candidate, you will combine deep GCP technical expertise with client-facing consulting skills. On a typical engagement you will:

Enough about us, let’s talk about you

This is a Senior Consultant role: 7–10 years of total experience with 4–6 years hands-on on Google Cloud (or equivalent cloud with a credible GCP transition path). You will lead workstreams and mentor 2–4 junior team members while working under the direction of a Manager or Senior Manager.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years total technology experience; 4–6 years hands-on delivering data platforms on Google Cloud.
• Working knowledge of Gemini Enterprise and the Vertex AI stack — Vertex AI Search, embeddings and vector indices, grounding on BigQuery / Cloud Storage — and a clear point of view on how to expose enterprise data to agents safely.
• Understanding of the data-foundation prerequisites for agentic AI: canonical semantic layer, entity resolution, metadata and lineage, row/column-level access controls that carry through to agent-time retrieval.
• Deep hands-on with BigQuery (partitioning, clustering, materialized views, BI Engine, cost governance), Dataproc, Dataflow (Apache Beam), Cloud Storage, and Pub/Sub.
• Experience with transformation and orchestration tooling: Dataform, dbt, Cloud Composer / Airflow.
• Strong data-modeling skills — dimensional, Data Vault, and modern lakehouse patterns; comfortable choosing between them for the client's use case.
• Governance and security fluency: Dataplex, IAM, VPC-SC, CMEK, DLP, row/column access policies.
• Proficient in SQL and Python; comfortable with Terraform for infrastructure as code.
• Track record of leading a data workstream through discovery, design, build, and hypercare on at least two enterprise engagements.
• Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management.

Good to have

• GCP certification (Professional Data Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect).
• Experience with streaming architectures (Pub/Sub + Dataflow, Kafka on GKE).
• Exposure to real-time features for ML and agentic use cases.
• Familiarity with Databricks-on-GCP or Snowflake-on-GCP interop scenarios.
• Prior professional-services or regulated-industry (financial services, public sector, healthcare) experience.
• Security Clearance (Reliability / Secret)

Language requirement (Montreal)

For candidates based in Montreal: proficiency in French (spoken and written) is required, in addition to English, to serve our Quebec-based clients and colleagues in accordance with Bill 96.

Total Rewards

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $138,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program.
